Storozhenkella phoenix Shcherbakov, sp. nov.; by present designation.

Included species. Type species.

Diagnosis. Tegmen narrow lanceolate, widest near base; costal and preradial areas narrow; R, M and CuA simple, unforked, their side branches look like weak crossveins; R and CuA converging distally; claval cell narrow.

Etymology. In honour of our colleague Sergey Storozhenko, for his diverse contributions to entomology and his great work on publishing “Far Eastern Entomologist”; gender feminine.

Remarks. Similar to Strivicia Shcherbakov, 2022 in the strongly oblique dSc, but in the latter the R and M bear forks, and the distal venation is not symmetrical. Similar to Solitivicia Criscione-Vastano et Grimaldi, 2024 in the unforked R, M and CuA, but in the latter these veins diverge up to their apices, and the tegmen is widest beyond midlength.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/DC032626FFFC011A14EAFB4B567DF99C	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Storozhenkella Shcherbakov, gen. nov.

Included genera. Type genus.

Diagnosis. Tegmen: costal area short; costal fracture almost longitudinal; distal venation symmetrical relative to M running along midline of remigium.

Remarks. The new genus is assigned to Ipsviciidae based on the characteristic narrow lanceolate tegmen shape, poor venation (three main veins with little or no branching on the remigium), claval Y-vein with a long stalk, and a well-developed costal fracture. However, it differs from the other genera of the family, here united under Ipsviciinae stat. nov., in several important characters (see above Diagnosis); in Ipsviciinae the costal area is long, the costal fracture is transverse, the distal venation is not symmetrical relative to the remigium midline, and the M does not run along it.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/DC032626FFFC011A14EAFD5F5672FBB4	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Holotype PIN 4271/657 (part and counterpart), tegmen and paratype PIN 4271/680, tegmen (clavus and costal piece missing) from outcrop 368, layers 4 (holotype) and 5b (paratype), Shar-Tolgoy locality (33 km N of Bayan-Lig Somon, SE of Ikh Bogd Mt.), Bayan-Khongor Province, Southern Mongolia.

Diagnosis. As for genus.

Locality and horizon. Shar-Tolgoy Formation, Bon-Tsagaan Group, upper Aptian (or lower Albian?), Lower Cretaceous.

Description. Medium-sized, slender hopper. Tegmen 12.4 mm long (holotype), markedly elongate (4.0:1), narrowly lanceolate, apex obliquely obtuse, widest against apex of basal cell. Costal margin deeply arched near base, slightly concave about level of junction of claval veins, and feebly convex distally; precostal carina narrow. Costal area (distally delimited by dSc) short, narrow; basicostal projection and bSc not discernible. R, M and CuA separated at apex of short triangular basal cell; costal fracture almost longitudinal, running along R, entering costal margin just beyond separation of dSc, proximal to claval cell apex; dSc running along costal margin and entering it about midlength of claval Y-vein stalk. R, M and CuA nearly straight, not zigzagged, running up to tegmen apex subparallel; crossvein-like anterior branches of R and posterior branches of CuA obsolete, as well as irregular crossveins between R, M and CuA (mostly in distal part of tegmen); main veins with indistinct warts at junctions with crossveins. Preradial area narrow. M running nearer to CuA at 1/3 tegmen length and equidistant from R and CuA distally, entering tegmen apex; R and CuA distally running subparallel to anterior and posterior margin, respectively. Clavus occupying 3/5 tegmen length, claval veins (Pcu and 1A) united at 1/2 clavus length, their long common stalk entering commissural margin just before claval apex. Narrow appendix deflected ventrad beyond claval apex. Surface of tegmen densely punctate, shallower distally, apex of tegmen nearly smooth with indistinct veins. R, M and CuA dark except apices; surface between veins slightly unevenly darkened. The paratype lacking the clavus and costal piece (detached along the claval and costal fractures, respectively) is smaller (9.0 mm long as preserved, reconstructed length 9.5 mm), less elongate, with a much narrower preradial area, shorter postnodal part, longer dSc, indistinct basal cell, and conspicuous dark marble pattern except near the apex; it presumably belongs to a male, whereas the holotype is a female tegmen (females are generally larger in hoppers).

Etymology. Greek phoinix, a fabulous bird symbolic of resurrection and immortality.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/DC032626FFFC011814EAF95353EEFCB0	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
