D42C8792FFE5FF8CFF6B80D9FA64FDD0.taxon	discussion	This genus is one of about 230 monobasic genera in Thripinae. It has been recorded previously only from California (ThripsWiki 2025), based on the type-species Prosopoanaphothrips reticulatus Moulton, 1907. This species was described originally as ' Sericothrips reticulatus ' based on only one female (Moulton 1907), and then Moulton (1926) transferred it into the genus Anaphothrips giving the subgeneric name Prosopoanaphothrips. This species was recorded feeding on the surface of the leaves and in the sheaths of various Poaceae species, especially Bromus rigidus, on which the great numbers in seasons of rains can result in a stunting of the leaves (Bailey 1948). In appearance, Prosopoanaphothrips is similar to Prosopothrips, but it can be distinguished by a pair of stout setae on male abdominal tergite IX, abdominal tergite VIII without large sculptured area around the spiracles and sternites III – VI of males with small oval pore plates.	en	Sun, Xinshuo, Huang, Datao, Li, Yaya, Dang, Lihong (2026): Two new species from China of the Californian grass-living genus Prosopoanaphothrips (Thysanoptera, Thripinae). D42C8792FFE6FF8DFF6B86C5FACFFEB2.taxon	discussion	Comments. This is similar to the Californian species, Prosopoanaphothrips reticulatus in general appearance. The former can be distinguished by antennal segment IV with a forked sense cone, mesonotum without paired CPS anteromedially, antennal segments IV – VIII uniformly brown, all femora brown, tibiae and tarsi yellow (in P. reticulatus: antennal segment IV with a simple sense cone, mesonotum with paired CPS anteromedially, antennal segments IV yellow and all legs yellow). Furthermore, P. reticulatus was described from San Francisco in California from a low-altitude, but this species was collected from Qinghai-Xizang Plateau above 3000 m in altitude.	en	Sun, Xinshuo, Huang, Datao, Li, Yaya, Dang, Lihong (2026): Two new species from China of the Californian grass-living genus Prosopoanaphothrips (Thysanoptera, Thripinae). D42C8792FFE1FF8BFF6B8029FB01F921.taxon	discussion	Moulton described this species from a single female collected on the Campus of the Leland Stanford Junior University, California. Subsequent collections seem to have been largely in similar localities close to San Franciso. Judging from available collections the species has not been demonstrated to have spread east from this coastal area. Bailey (1948) indicates that the species is associated with a Eurasian grass species, Bromus rigidus, that was introduced to USA long ago. This host plant, and the apparently restricted distribution of P. reticulatus, raises the possibility that the thrips itself is not native to California but possibly an immigrant from somewhere in the Old World. A recent description and images of females are available on the website Thysanoptera Californica (Mound et al. 2019). We are grateful to Jonah Ulmer in Washington who examined and reported to us on the structure of a male deposited in National Museum of Natural History, Washington, and provided the image given here as Figure 4. Antennal segments III – IV each have one outer simple sense cone (Fig. 4). Other images supplied indicated that abdominal tergite IX has a pair of stout setae, and sternites III – VI each have a small oval pore plate.	en	Sun, Xinshuo, Huang, Datao, Li, Yaya, Dang, Lihong (2026): Two new species from China of the Californian grass-living genus Prosopoanaphothrips (Thysanoptera, Thripinae).
