Dorsal surface dark brown and glabrous, with greenish shiny on frons, pronotum and elytra, labroclypeus, ventral surface and legs reddish brown, antenna yellow.

Labroclypeus subtrapezoidal, wider than long, widest at base, lateral margins moderately convex and convergent to strongly rounded anterior angles, anterior margin weakly emarginate medially, margins moderately reflexed; surface weakly convex, moderately shiny, finely and densely punctate, glabrous; frontoclypeal suture indistinctly incised, flat and weakly curved medially; ocular canthus short and triangular, impunctate, with a single terminal seta. Smooth area anterior to eye twice as wide as long. Frons dull, with sparse, fine punctures, with two single erect setae beside each eye. Antenna yellowish, with ten antennomeres; club composed of four antennomeres in male, straight, as long as remaining antennomeres combined. Eyes moderately large, ratio of diameter / interocular width: 0.6. Mentum elevated and slightly flattened anteriorly.

Pronotum moderately wide and convex, widest shortly before base, lateral margins evenly convex, strongly narrowed anteriorly towards sharp and slightly produced anterior angles, posterior angles convex. Anterior margin of pronotum slightly convex, with fine, complete marginal line. Surface finely and densely punctate, except minute setae glabrous, lateral and lateral anterior margins sparsely setose. Hypomeron not carinate. Scutellum triangular, finely and densely punctate.

Elytra oblong, widest in posterior third, striae distinctly impressed, finely and moderately densely punctate, intervals flat, with fine and almost evenly dense punctures weakly concentrated along striae, with very minute setae in punctures and a very few short setae on odd intervals; epipleural edge robust, ending at convex external apical angle of elytra, epipleura densely setose; apical border with a narrow fringe of microtrichomes (100 ×).

Ventral surface dull, finely and densely punctate, metasternum sparsely covered with fine, short, or very minute setae; metacoxa glabrous, with a few single setae laterally; abdominal sternites finely and densely punctuate, with a transverse row of coarse punctures, each bearing a robust seta. Mesosternum between mesocoxae as wide as mesofemur. Ratio of length of metepisternum / metacoxa: 1 / 1.58. Pygidium strongly convex at apex, dull, densely punctate, without smooth midline, almost glabrous, with a few longer setae along apical margin.

Legs short and wide; femora finely and sparsely punctate; metafemur wide and moderately shiny, anterior margin acute, posterior margin smooth ventrally and only weakly widened in apical half, posterior margin smooth dorsally, without particular extension at basal third and glabrous. Metatibia short and wide, widest at middle; ratio width / length: 1 / 3.0; basal group of dorsal spines of metatibia at first third, apical one at three quarters of metatibial length; distal margin weakly concave, terminal spines of normal length. Tarsomeres dorsally smooth, with fine, dense setae ventrally on distal half, neither laterally nor dorsally carinate; metatarsomeres with a strongly serrated ridge ventrally and glabrous; first metatarsomere slightly shorter than following two tarsomeres combined, one quarter of its length longer than dorsal tibial spine. Protibia short, bidentate; anterior claws symmetrical, basal tooth of both claws bluntly truncate at apex.

Aedeagus: Fig. 1 I – K. Habitus: Fig. 1 G, H. Female unknown.

Diagnosis.

Tetraserica dietzi Ahrens & Pham, sp. nov. differs from the very similar Tetraserica allosejugata Fabrizi, Dalstein & Ahrens, 2019 by the shape of the right paramere, which has a much shorter ventral lobe and which is subequal in length to the dorsal lobe. The dorsal lobe of the right paramere is at apex evenly curved ventrally and not abruptly bent as in T. allosejugata . Tetraserica dietzi differs also in shape of the left paramere, which is bent ventrally at apex (lateral view), instead of being straight as in T. allosejugata .

Etymology.

The new species is named after Lars Dietz, former postdoc of D. A., who has been collaborating in numerous scarab projects with us and who we herewith thank for all his efforts in the past years (noun in genitive case singular).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/5EC0CBE0819D5B8FAE32598FBA8CF9A3	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Female unknown.

Diagnosis.

Tetraserica xinba Ahrens & Pham, sp. nov. differs from the very similar T. tonkinensis (Moser, 1908) by its overall length of the wider mesoventral apical apophysis of phallobase, and by the shape of the parameres. The dorsal lobe of the right paramere is in T. xinba Ahrens & Pham, sp. nov. smaller / shorter being subequal to ca 1 / 5 of the length of mesoventral apical apophysis of phallobase (instead of 1 / 3 as in T. tonkinensis), and the ventral lobe of the right paramere is also much shorter (both in lateral view). The right paramere is in T. xinba Ahrens & Pham, sp. nov. more evenly curved, lacking the submesal blunt tooth on its dorsal margin. From the also similar T. phamanhi Pham & Ahrens, 2023, the new species differs by the unsplit left paramere and the much longer and almost evenly wide mesoventral apical apophysis of phallobase. The latter is in T. phamanhi shorter and distinctly evenly narrowed from the base towards its apex. From T. appendiculata Fabrizi, Dalstein & Ahrens, 2019, T. xinba Ahrens & Pham, sp. nov. differs by the in apical half much wider mesoventral apical apophysis of phallobase, which is, however, in basal half distinctly narrower than in T. appendiculata, by the much larger and more convexly pronounced basal lobe of the right paramere, and the in apical half more strongly curved left paramere.

Etymology.

The new species is named after its type locality, Xinba village (noun in apposition).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/5E31F8A67F0C5AFE930B18BB1762895F	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
