Legs slender, fore and mid inner and outer tarsal claws each with a basal tooth in both sexes, while hind ones simple. Abdominal terminal ventrite nearly triangular in males (sternite IX), while trapezoid and usually emarginate at posterior margins in females (sternite VIII). Aedeagus oval, deeply cloven ventrally and separated dorsally, with ventral process and dorsal plate of each paramere approaching each other. Female reproductive system with elongate vagina, where median oviduct situated at ventroapical part, diverticulum and spermatheca arising from apex; diverticulum and spermatheca thin and tube-shaped, much longer than accessory gland, which is more or less enlarged apically; spermatheca provided with a spiral tube and extended into a short tube at basal portion, where accessory gland opening.

Distribution.

Oriental and Palaearctic Regions.

Remarks.

The genus Habronychus, which includes the subgenera Habronychus s. str., Macrohabronychus, and Monohabronychus, is closely related to Stenothemus Bourgeois, 1907 and Falsopodabrus Pic, 1927 . Collectively, these taxa are referred to as the Stenothemus complex by Švihla (2004). Within this complex, Habronychus s. str. can be easily distinguished from the other taxa by a combination of several characteristics: a small body size, a typically reddish brown pronotum and elytra, a subquadrate pronotum with non-projecting posterior angles, and the presence of a basal digitiform tooth on both the inner and outer claws of the pro- and mesothoracic legs in both sexes. The features of the tarsal claws are distinctive and reliable for identifying this subgenus, although other characteristics may vary or resemble those of other taxa.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/F6456043BB01583F9B5E1857504E477E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
