Mahato.

DNA barcoding.

We were able to sequence one specimen (GenBank Accession Number: PZ 264398).

Remarks.

After careful examination, the Indian male specimens are confirmed to belong to the genus Heleniella owing to the following morphological characters: hairy eyes, thorax with strongly developed lanceolate setae, and antepronotal lobe densely covered with setae. In addition to the aforementioned morphological features, the presence of greyish-black spots forming two distinct dark transverse bands across the wing distinguishes H. nebulosa from all other Heleniella species, except H. osarumaculata and H. otujimaculata . Among the latter, the specimens can be confidently identified as H. nebulosa based on the presence of lanceolate humerals and lanceolate setae on the antepronotum, anepisternum II, median anepisternum II, and postnotum. Additional diagnostic features include a triangular inferior volsella and a virga composed of two long and three short spines. Andersen and Wang (1997) described the male as antennal ratio 0.55, terminal antennal flagellomere 219 µm long and HR 2.49. We regard these differences from our data as due to observation methods and / or intraspecific variation.

In the female sex, following major similarities between H. nebulosa and the Indian female specimen were noticed: lanceolate setae present on antepronotum, anepisternum II, median anepisternum II and postnotum. The main morphological characters for the female are wing color and pattern which is greyish-black colored spots forming two dark bands across the wing.

The morphological characteristics of the Indian male specimens closely correspond to the description provided by Andersen and Wang (1997), with the exception of the few morphometric variations summarized in Table 3.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/F80644F47FFA5C15BFB631EDF3AE8853	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
