Male. Body reddish brown (alcohol preserved YPT collection). Upper surface of body including forewings uniformly punctate. Crown margin in front of eyes and lateral margins of pronotum with reddish dark brown thin border, lateral margins in front of eyes straight for a short distance then convergent, with obtusely angled apex, median carina fine, 0.7× as long as interocular distance, 0.9× as long as pronotum medially. Ocelli about as wide apart from each other as from adjacent eye. Pronotum sloping laterally, with disc coarsely transversely rugose, 1.8× as wide as long medially, lateral margins more or less parallel to each other, anterior margin slightly convex, posterior margin concave medially, distance between posterolateral angles 1.05× as that between anterolateral angles. Mesonotum subequal (1.08×) to the median length of pronotum (Fig. 1A–C). Forewing subapical cells with few accessory cross veins. Metabasitarsomere with 4 platellae.

Male genitalia. Pygofer 1.3× longer than height in lateral view, dorsal margin slightly concave at posterior half and posterodorsal margin narrowed to beak-like process posterodorsally, ventral margin convex, without ventral process. Subgenital plate longer than pygofer in lateral view (Fig. 1E). Connective T-shaped with broad dorsomedial lobe, 1.85× as long as wide basally (Fig. 1H–J). Aedeagal atrium rectangular in posteroventral view; shaft wedge shaped dorsally, moderately long and slightly curved dorsally in lateral view, broadest at middle and gradually narrowed towards rounded apex, apex with median longitudinal cleft, a pair of spine-like ventrolateral processes at mid length of the shaft, movably articulated to shaft, arising from basal socket, closely appressed to the shaft and slightly surpassing it, slightly divergent beyond mid length in ventral view (Fig. 1H–J). The species name ‘ dweepa ’, a Sanskrit noun meaning island, which refers to the Andaman Is. of India where this species lives. It is a noun in apposition.

Remarks. Petalocephala dweepa Rajgopal sp. nov., has external features similar to those of P. nigrilinea and P. uniformis, except for its reddish brown body colouration (based on alcohol preserved specimens from YPT collection) and distinct male genitalia. The new species shares similarities in male genitalia characters with P. nigrilinea, including having the subgenital plate longer than the pygofer in lateral view and the aedeagal shaft with one pair of subapical process arising on the ventral surface and extending beyond the shaft apex. P. dweepa can be distinguished from P. nigrilinea by the absence of male pygofer ventral process (present in P. nigrilinea), presence of a subapical tooth on the style apophysis (absent in P. nigrilinea), and the wedge shaped aedeagal shaft in dorsal view, with a pair of ventral processes arising from mid length of the shaft with in a basal socket (in contrast to the subapical processes, without basal socket in P. nigrilinea). Petalocephala dweepa runs to couplet no. 18 with species P. uniformis of the keys provided by Viraktamath et al. (2025) for species of Petalocephala of the Indian subcontinent. Petalocephala dweepa is similar to P. uniformis in lacking a male pygofer ventral process but it can be readily separated from the latter by style apophysis with a subapical tooth (without subapical tooth in P. uniformis) and the aedeagal shaft with a pair of ventral processes at mid length with a basal socket (aedeagal shaft with one lamellate lateral process and pair of lateral membranous lobes in P. uniformis).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/9746FF49FF850D49FF5F4BD8FBABD56F	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
