Type species: Euconnus (Chenzhilinus) huapingensis Yin & Zhou; by original designation.

Revised diagnosis. Habitus Euconnus -like. Body with distinct constrictions between head and pronotum, and between pronotum and elytra; thick bristles present on vertex, tempora, genae, anterolateral, lateral, and lateroventral areas of pronotum, and mesanepisternum of thorax. Head in lateral view subrectangular, with suboval frontovertexal region; eyes anteriorly positioned, closer to antennal insertions than to occipital constriction; antennal insertions medially separated by distance subequal to scape width; fronto-clypeal groove absent; posterior margin of vertex not bulging posterodorsally, evenly convex medially; submental region laterally with pairs of posteriorly converging hypostomal carinae (= “hypostomal suture”) and hypostomal ridges, intercarinal area subtriangular; hypostomal ridges extending posteriorly, ending before level of posterior tentorial pits, each dividing gena into setose lateral portion and asetose inner portion; occipital constriction slightly broader than half head-width; neck region broadening posteriorly; mandibles slender, each with small subapical tooth; maxillary palpomere 3 not enlarged (i. e., not conspicuously broader than scape); labrum with anterior row of peg-like sensilla; antennal club tetramerous or pentamerous, with subquadrate antennomeres 7 (or 8) to 10 and subconical antennomere 11. Pronotum subrounded, broadest near middle; typically with two pairs of antebasal pits, variably absent or weakly developed; sublateralbasal carinae short if present. Prosternum with precoxal region much shorter than procoxal rests; procoxal cavities medially separated by thin longitudinal carina; notosternal sutures complete; hypomeral ridges sharply delineating inner and outer regions of each hypomeron. Elytra elongate-oval; each elytron with two deep, asetose basal pits; scutellar shield partially exposed between elytral bases. Mesoventral intercoxal process broad, keel-like, greatly raised, extending from middle of mesoventral procoxal rests to beyond level of posterior margins of mesocoxae, posteriorly fused with metaventrite. Metaventral intercoxal process narrowly separating metacoxae, with medial round notch. Aedeagus stout; median lobe and internal sac (endophallic) armature symmetric; parameres markedly short, sometimes scarcely visible. Male secondary sexual characters present on antennal clubs and sternites 1 (III), 2 (IV).

Comparative notes. Although exhibiting an Euconnus -like habitus, the genus can be unambiguously distinguished and tentatively placed within an informal working group of Stenichnini whose members are characterized by the possession of a pair of hypostomal sutures (= “hypostomal carinae” in this paper) demarcating a subrectangular submental region. Specifically, Chenzhilinus differs from all known subgenera of Euconnus by the presence of these posteriorly converging hypostomal carinae and ridges, a character state universally absent in the Euconnus complex. Furthermore, while the tetramerous or pentamerous antennal clubs might superficially resemble some Euconnus species, the combination of the submental structure, the presence of distinct tubercles on male sternites III and IV, and the markedly shortened, symmetric parameres of the aedeagus serves to isolate this lineage as a distinct genus. Following the most recent key to world stenichnine genera published in Jałoszyński (2025a), Chenzhilinus keys to couplet 49; the key requires the following minor modification to accommodate the genus:

49 Antennae with sharply delimited dimerous clubs..................... Nogunius Jałoszyński (China: Taiwan; Japan)

- Antennae gradually broadened apically, or with distinct clubs composed of no less than three apical antennomeres....49’

49’ Antennae with tetramerous or pentamerous clubs (Yin & Zhou 2024: figs 1, 2D; Figs 1A, B, 2A); antennomeres 8–10 transversely subquadrate............................... Chenzhilinus Yin & Zhou (China: Guangxi, Chongqing)

- Antennae gradually broadened or with trimerous clubs; antennomeres 8–10 not as distinctly subquadrate as above.... 50

Chenzhilinus currently comprises two Chinese species distributed in Guangxi and Chongqing. These taxa together form an apparent monophyletic lineage united by a shared morphology of the antennal club, the presence of paired tubercles on the lateral margins of male sternites 1 (III) and 2 (IV), and a rather conservative configuration of the aedeagus.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/833FF45EFFD2663AFF3CFC4EFEB93987	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. China: Guangxi, Chongqing (Fig. 3). New provincial record for Chongqing.

Remarks. The aedeagus of the type species was originally described as “devoid of parameres” or “lacking parameres.” This putative diagnostic character state was based on an examination of the two available male type specimens, in which “no traces of parameres were found.” However, re-examination of the holotype, augmented by newly collected material for the present study, revealed the presence of parameres. These structures were previously overlooked owing to their extreme inconspicuousness. The updated diagnosis for Chenzhilinus is corrected to reflect this finding, describing the parameres as “markedly short.” The revised description is illustrated by including a drawing of the aedeagus that clearly labels the short paramere (Fig. 1C; pm), and is supplemented with morphological details of the spermatheca based on females from Chongqing.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/833FF45EFFD1663BFF3CFCC0FCBF3D76	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Unknown.

Sexual dimorphism. The female presumably differs from the male (as in the type species) by having less strongly modified antennal clubs and lacking lateral projections on the abdominal sternites. This hypothesis can be verified only by examination of female specimens in the future.

Comparative notes. The two species included in this genus resemble each other in both external morphology and shape of the aedeagus. They can be best separated by the different form of the male antennal clubs (see the key below).

Distribution. Southwestern China: Chongqing (Fig. 3). This species has a sympatric distribution with C. huapingensis at the Yintiaoling Nature Reserve in Chongqing.

Etymology.
