Zhang

Type species: Amritodus flavoscutatus Cai & Shen, 1998

Diagnosis. Sexually dimorphic in coloration. Male with dark brown or black markings on head and thorax. Forewings hyaline with a large dark brown spot on costa, veins dark brown. Female similar to male but markings dark to yellowish brown.

Head wider than pronotum. Crown slightly narrower in middle than next to eyes, upper part of face and vertex transversely rugose. Face wider across eyes than long, lateral margins of genae almost straight except basally; ocelli situate at ends of lateral frontal sutures, closer to adjacent eyes than to each other; antennal flagellum without dilation in male; anteclypeus projecting beyond genae, expanded apically; lora long, elevated above level of genae. Pronotum transversely rugose. Scutellum broader than long, and longer than combined length of crown and pronotum. Forewings with 4 apical cells and 2 subapical cells, outer subapical closed, inner subapical cell open; appendix moderately broad. Hind femoral macrosetae 2+1, hind tibial macrosetae PD 19–20, AD 7–8, AV 8–9. Hind basitarsus with three platellae on distal transverse row.

Male genitalia. Pygofer with an elongate ventral process, anterior margin with developed dorsal apodeme; anal collar developed and well sclerotized dorsally. Subgenital plates distinctly shorter than pygofer, with long fine setae. Male valve wider than long, posterior margin undulate with rounded median projection. Style with apophysis elongate and curved dorsally at nearly 90° angle, apex with usually bearing a row of fine setae. Connective X-shaped, stem short without dorsomedial keel. Aedeagus with developed preatrium and dorsal apodeme poorly developed, aedeagal shaft tubular with lamellate appendages near apex, gonopore situated apically.

Female genitalia. Female ovipositor slightly projecting beyond pygofer. Second valvula regularly broadened in lateral view.

Distribution. Oriental region (China).

Etymology. The masculine generic name refers to the similarity of this new genus to Hyalinocerus Zhang & Li.

Comments. Neohyalinocerus belongs to the Tasnimocerus genus group, characterized by transverse rugae on the head and thorax. Neohyalinocerus and Hyalinocerus have a similar style with apophysis curved dorsally at nearly 90° angle, but Neohyalinocerus differs by the male pygofer having a ventral process and connective small with stem short, and aedeagus lacking long processes near apex. Neohyalinocerus has a spot on the forewing costa similar to that of some species of Longicauda Zhang & Wu, but the latter differs in having an elongate pygofer and elongated stem of the connective.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/7A68BE3BFFEDE939A5E24C811759F850	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Neohyalinocerus flavoscutatus resembles Hyalinocerus nigrimaculatus Zhang & Li, 2012 in having pronotal markings (Figs. 1–3, 20–22) in both the male and female, the presence of an anal collar, and an elongate apical apophysis of the style (Figs. 12, 24). However, the new species differs from the latter in having a ventral pygofer processes (Fig. 11), a longer preatrium of the aedeagus, the aedeagal shaft without long apical processes (Figs 13–14) and the connective with a short stem (Figs 13–14).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/7A68BE3BFFEFE93FA5E24CC91633FB08	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
