Flowers arranged in glabrous, terminal, simple dichasia, peduncle 2 – 4 mm long, the distalmost pairs of leaves reduced to lineariform bracts, each 6 – 9 × 0.8 – 1.2 mm. Pedicel 3 – 4.2 mm long, 4 - lined. Flowers 8 – 12 mm in diam. at full anthesis, stellate; sepals 6 – 8 × 2.4 – 2.7 mm, basally imbricate, ovate, (5) 7 - veined, muricate especially on the outer surface, margin hyaline, apex acute; petals broadly obovate, 8 – 10 × 6 – 7 mm, with 13 or 15 conspicuous, longitudinal veins, apiculus obtuse; stamens 70 – 80, 2.5 – 3.5 mm long; ovary 2.5 – 3.3 × 1 – 1.5 mm, tricarpellate, ovoid, styles 3, 1.8 – 2.5 mm long, stigmas subcapitate. No fruits are known.	en	González, Favio (2025): Hypericum boyacense (Hypericaceae), a new broad-leaved species of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, with a key to identify the species of the group. 7B195430FF97FFE9FF74D64EFC59FD1A.taxon	distribution	Distribution, ecology and conservation status: — Hypericum boyacense is known only from the type specimen, in open páramos of the Ranchería Reserve, near the municipality of Paipa, Department of Boyacá. It is expected that this natural Reserve, located in the Colombian Eastern Cordillera, ensures the conservation of the species. Until further exploration is conducted in the type locality and surrounding areas, the new species is here placed in category DD (Data Deficient), according to IUCN guidelines (IUCN 2024).	en	González, Favio (2025): Hypericum boyacense (Hypericaceae), a new broad-leaved species of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, with a key to identify the species of the group. 7B195430FF97FFE9FF74D64EFC59FD1A.taxon	etymology	Etymology: — The new species is named after Boyacá, the department of Colombia whose extensive subpáramos and páramos hold most of the endemic Hypericum species in the country, including the new species described here.	en	González, Favio (2025): Hypericum boyacense (Hypericaceae), a new broad-leaved species of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, with a key to identify the species of the group. 7B195430FF97FFE9FF74D64EFC59FD1A.taxon	discussion	Notes: — Hypericum boyacense belongs to the broad-leaved species and closely resembles H. cymobrathys. Both species have small flowers, 0.8 – 1.5 cm in diam. at full anthesis (Fig. 2 F, H), which appear bibracteate due to the extreme reduction of the distalmost pair of leaves immediately below the terminal flower (s) (Fig. 2 F, G). Until now, this condition was known to occur only in H. cymobrathys (Mora-Osejo & González, 1995). However, the new species differs as it is a small herb up to 30 cm tall, with slight basitonic, non-pseudodichotomous branching, internodes 6 – 12 mm long, and leaves gradually reducing in size towards the proximal portion of the shoot (Figs. 1, 2 A), (vs. shrubs 50 - 150 cm tall, with acrotonic, dichotomous branching, internodes 2 – 5 mm long, and leaves approximately the same size along the shoots in H. cymobrathys). Notably, H. boyacense sharply differs from the remaining broad-leaved species by its unique set of traits that includes stems and leaves densely muricate, with protruding dark glands (Fig. 2 C – E), and leaves, sepals and petals strongly multi-veined (Fig. 2 C – E, H). Although H. boyacense and H. cymobrathys present a sympatric distribution in the type locality of the former, the new species grows in open paramos, whereas H. cymobrathys grows at the edges of high-montane forests and subpáramos.	en	González, Favio (2025): Hypericum boyacense (Hypericaceae), a new broad-leaved species of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, with a key to identify the species of the group.
