Silva y Col.” . Paratypes: 3 females with the same label data as holotype (All types are deposited in the MUSM) .

Holotype. Length 6.30 mm; width 1.24 mm. Body elongate, slightly attenuated posteriorly, dorsoventrally depressed; subparallel medially, widest just behind middle, lateral outline discontinuous in dorsal aspect (Fig. 1A). Color: dorsal and ventral surface predominantly brown.

Head slightly longer than wide (Figs 1A, E); frontal grooves deep, narrow; median lobe elongates, with lanceolate shape, dilated in the middle and widening anteriorly; temporal lobe without medial angle, with four setae (two anterior and two posterior) located at pit, median lobe extending to middle part of eyes; one pair of prelabial setae, one pair of postlabial setae (inner gular groove). Gular groove with pollinose texture. Mentum and submentum divided by groove; mentum horizontally divided into two parts by groove. Antennal stylet short (about 0.18 of length of segment XI), minor setae present on segment V–XI, tufts of minor setae on segments I–X; segments III–IV each with subapical pollinose ring; basal setae present on segments X–XI (Fig. 2A)

Pronotum moderately elongate (Figs 1A, B); L/GW 1.33 mm; widest near middle, sides strongly curved; median groove narrow, widened anteriorly to level of anterior pit; basal impression straight, confluent basal impression and discal striole long about 0.26 of length of pronotum; marginal groove narrow, visible in dorsal view, with eight lateral setae; one seta posterior to each basal impression; sternopleural suture present and evident.

Elytra moderately elongate; striae deep, narrow, smoothly punctured, anteriorly pollinose; striation reduced, with five striae, intercalary striae complete; sutural intercalar and striae complete impressed; subapical tubercle not elongated, and apical tubercles elongated directed inwards; marginal stria impressed; sutural striae without setae (Fig. 1A). Metasternum with deep, linear median groove (Fig. 1B). Abdominal sterna with transverse grooves, that of sternum III almost complete (slightly interrupted in middle), those of sterna IV and V interrupted medially; sternum VI at middle flat, without a protuberance furcula-shaped, with U-shaped groove, and with three setae on posterior margin (Fig. 1F). Protibia with articulation of tarsus to tibia opposite the anterior point of the cleaning organ. Middle tibia with moderate size calcar enlarged and strongly curved inwards (Fig. 1C); hind tibia with small calcar, smaller than one on middle tibia; tibial spurs of each leg of equal length. Male genitalia, aedeagus with long parameres, wide at the base, narrow in the apex (Fig. 1H).

Female. Length 6.72 mm; width 1.61 mm. In general, the female is similar to the male, but the middle tibia has the distal end acute but not enlarged as in male (Figs 1D, 2B), sternum VI at middle is smooth and with furcula-shaped protuberance and with four setae on posterior margin (Fig. 1G). Measurements of the females. TL: 5.91–6.98 mm, mean 6.52 mm (n = 3); MW: 1.36 –1.75 mm, mean 1.56 mm (n = 3); PL: 1.70–2.09 mm (n = 3); PW: 1.20–1.55 mm, mean 1.34 mm (n = 3).

Diagnosis. This is the only species of the genus in which the male individuals have the sternum VI with a furcula-shaped protuberance at middle; in both sexes, the pronotum has a basal impression separated from the marginal groove; female with submarginal sulcus of sternum VI not separated from transverse sulcus (Fig. 1G).

Comments. This species fits within the subgenus Clinidium (Clinidium) as it has minor setae present on antennal segment V–XI, two temporal setae per side, a single marginal pronotal groove, elytral intervals not carinate, the pronotum with angular seta, and three marginal setae. It differs from the other members of the Clinidium (Clinidium) subgenus in having the anterior tibia with the articulation of tarsus opposite the anterior point of the cleaning organ and sternopleural grooves present in front of protibia (absent in Clinidium ( Clinidium)). It belongs to the cavicolle group as it has the pronotum with an anterior median pit greatly enlarged and with a central tubercule; but differs from the other species in having the basal impression separate from the marginal groove. Clinidium michkas Figueroa & Megna, sp. nov. can be confused with the Neotropical species C. centrale Grouvelle 1903, C. validum Grouvelle 1903 and C. spatulatum Bell & Bell 1985 due to the similar pattern of the notopleural suture with pollinosity and metasternum with median sulcus, but can be separated from them by the margin of the median groove sinuate near the anterior median pit; transverse sulci of abdominal sterna III–VI separated in female; submarginal sulcus of sternum VI is not separated from transverse sulcus (Fig. 1G).

Etymology. The specific epithet michkas is a noun in the genitive case, which honors the pre-Inca people who were settled in the Canchaque area (Piura).

Distribution. Clinidium michkas Figueroa & Megna sp. nov. is reported from the Andean region of northern Peru (Fig. 3).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/7476EF4F130EFFEFFF4DF6F3FF39B1F4	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
