Differs from H. sergius as in key.

Description of female

Head densely yellow pruinose; proboscis about as long as the vertical diameter of eye, black, shining, laterally compressed, distinctly keeled on upperside, with a few yellowish setae ventrally and apically; palpi black, with short, yellowish macrosetae: distal palpomere slightly clavate, with an orange, apicolateral sensory pit; mystax uniseriate, short, consisting of about 12–16 densely packed, yellow macrosetae restricted to the lower facial margin; face pruinose, slightly divergent towards lower facial margin, occupying less than a third of head width; face in profile extremely narrow, almost straight, protruding only slightly at lower facial margin; eye with facets slightly enlarged along facial margin; antennae orange, shorter than vertical diameter of eye; scape longer than pedicel, postpedicel about 1.5 times as long as the scape and pedicel combined and with an apical microsegment; ocellar tubercle high, shining black; frons yellow pruinose, devoid of setae and with a pair of shining black, preocellar spots; occiput flat, almost invisible in profile, densely yellow pruinose; postocular macrosetae yellow, uniseriate; lower occiput with yellowish setae.

Thorax yellow pruinose, with black-brownish vittae, usually with yellow setae and macrosetae but occasionally brownish yellow (Fig. 13); paramedian vittae extending from anterior margin of scutum almost to scutellar suture; a medial prescutellar spot may or may not contact paramedian vittae; a slightly wider presutural spot extends posteriorly and becomes narrower at scutellar suture, and continues to lateral margin of scutellum. Dorsal thoracic setae: acrostichal setae along length of scutum; dorsocentral setae short and weak; slightly longer prescutellar suture; postpronotal setae sparse, weak; one, rarely two notopleural macrosetae; one to four supraalar macrosetae; one long postalar; a pair of long, convergent marginal scutellar macrosetae, rarely with a shorter, weaker, lateral seta. Lateral thoracic sclerites with a long, narrow vitta, extending along entire dorsal and anterior margins of anepisternum, ending between coxae on posterior margin of proepimeron; another vitta extends from anatergite, weakening or absent above posterior spiracle, then strengthening and ending on anterior margin of metanepisternum. second cervical sclerite with numerous long macrosetae, shorter on proepisternum; posterior margin of anepisternum with a few weak setae; katatergite with a few, long macrosetae. Wings (Fig. 6) hyaline with discrete spotting at junction of Sc and C, junction of R 2+3 and R 4+5, r-m crossvein, junction of R 4 and R 5, M 2 base; all marginal cells open. Legs (Fig. 12) orange-yellow with yellow macrosetae and setae; femora with short, weak setae, at most as long as thickness of femur, one macroseta usually present subapically on posterior margin, any others variable; fore tibia with 2 posteroventral macrosetae in apical half, another apically on anterior margin, all macrosetae about 2x tibial thickness; fore tibial spur originates anteroventrally and directly from the tibia, the corresponding metatarsus has a spiculose ventral area; mid tibia with 3 anterior macrosetae, equidistant along tibial length and 2–3x tibial thickness, 2 ventral macrosetae on apical half and about 2x tibial thickness; hind tibia with 2 ventral macrosetae in apical half, 2 anterodorsal macrosetae, 3 posterodorsal macrosetae along length, macrosetae at most slightly longer than tibial thickness; metatarsus about one third length of combined length of segments 2–5.

Abdomen shining, brownish-orange, setae yellowish, segments 6–8 dark brown in preserved specimens; 1 or 2 posterolateral macrosetae on tergites 1 and 2, remaining segments devoid of macrosetae.

Male: described by Macquart, 1850: 369 [65] (Figs 3, 4).

Dimensions: Body length: 11.5–16.5 mm, thoracic length 3–4 mm, wing length 9–13 mm.

Type-material examined (through images): 1♂, Holotype // MNHN, Paris ED9026 //1223 / 4 46 / Dasypogon analis ♂ Macq. n. sp. Gatton has been an area of intense agriculture for many years, with some remnants of natural vegetation remaining nearby. The Gatton specimen was formerly housed in the student collection of the University of Queensland Insect Collection, Brisbane. The collection data may be incorrect, as entomology students were notorious for inadvertently providing incorrect collection data.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/7049D35CFFF5C161FF36FA5A3970F8F5	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
