Unknown.

Etymology.

The new species is named after the municipality in which the cave where the type specimen was collected is located.

Habitat.

Pla de les Llomes sinkhole is located along a fracture at 570 m above sea level. The cave has a total length of about 220 m and an accessible depth of 42 m (Garay 1976; Fernández et al. 1980; Sarrión 2012) (Fig. 20 A). It is an epigenetically vadose cave developed in Middle Triassic dolomites (Garay 2001). It has a single entrance, about 2.5 m wide and 1.4 m high (Fig. 20 B). The entrance consists of an 11 m vertical shaft that connects with the rest of the cave, consisting of a series of complex crawl spaces, shafts, and pseudo-galleries, all developed along the dominant north-south fracturing of the area. The cave maintains a relatively high humidity overall, though certain zones exhibit constant dripping, others are noticeably drier. The base of the first shaft from the entrance constitutes the dimly lit zone, a buffer area inhabited by the troglophilic fauna. The remainder of the cave can be considered a deep zone, where moisture condenses on its surfaces, and where three additional troglobitic species of special biological interest have been recorded: the Zygentoma insect Coletinia longitibia Molero, Bach & Gaju, 2013, exclusive to this cave; the hemipteran cicada of the Kinnaridae family, Valenciolenda fadaforesta Hoch & Sendra, 2021, found in several caves in the eastern area of the Iberian Cordillera; and the dipluran Paratachycampa penyoensis Bareth & Condé, 1987, restricted to about half a dozen caves in Serra Calderona (Sendra-Mocholí et al. 2024). The specimen of Eukoenenia serrana sp. nov. was collected in the last chamber on the southern side of the cave (Fig. 20 C, A (topography) in Soto et al. 1975).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/AD013A86926B5D599C88C4FD6397F489	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
