Generally, herpotrichiellaceous hyphomycetes comprises black yeasts producing holoblastic, aseptate or septate conidia from small pegs on conidiophores, often in chains with annellidic features and occasional fusion or bending (Müller et al. 1987; Untereiner et al. 1995; Tian et al. 2021), or other forms with short or inconspicuous conidiophores bearing oval, muriform conidia (Tian et al. 2016; Dong et al. 2018).However, the morphological characters of our collections resemble species of Distoseptispora, Sporidesmium (Su et al. 2016), and Linkosia (Wu & Diao 2022) in Sordariomycetes, and Corynespora (Ma et al. 2008) and Sporidesmiella (Ma et al. 2012) in Dothideomycetes, all of which share acrogenous, obclavate, elongated, distoseptate conidia.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/723772101039FFF2DEB9FF6D8E5241A3	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The BLASTn analysis revealed that nucleotides of our isolate differs from V. compacta (CBS 268.75) by 9.73% (538/596, gaps: 13/596) variations in ITS, and 1.41% (771/782, gaps: 1/782) variations in LSU, differs from V. japonica (CBS 776.83) by 9.23% (551/607, gaps: 11/607) variations in ITS, and 2.00% (784/800, gaps: 1/800) variations in LSU, differs from V. aquatica (JAUCC2549) by 10.27% (498/555, gaps: 14/555) variations in ITS, 1.70% (808/822, gaps: 1/822) variations in LSU, and 11.05% (346/389, gaps: 8/389) variations in tub2. Morphologically, Eurodistus differs significantly from the genus Veronaea . Species of Veronaea have polyblastic, pale brown conidiogenous cells and pale brown to brown, septate conidia (Arzanlou et al. 2007, Chandrasiri et al. 2021; Su et al. 2023), whereas Eurodistus species possess monoblastic, dark brown conidiogenous cells and thick-walled, distoseptate, obclavate conidia that are dark brown to black. Based on the variations in nucleic acid sequences and the morphological distinctions, we group our collections as a novel genus within Herpotrichiellaceae .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/723772101039FFF2DEB9FC7589184A5F	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
