(Figs. 1–6).

Description:—The cells are spherical measuring 5–10 μm in diameter, with numerous (27–40) straight, tapering spines, 5.7–8.0 μm in length. Each spine-scale consists of a flat, circular base-plate with a diameter of 1.1–1.5 μm, from the center of which extends a triangular shaft that terminates in a tapering apex. The plate-scales with a single lacuna are of three types: elliptical and/or rounded measuring 0.9–1.3 μm × 0.9–2.0 μm; rounded-to-ovoid measuring 1.0–1.6 μm × 1.1–2.4 μm, and with an incomplete bridge. All scales with a thickened margin are 0.25–0.3 μm wide.

Holotype:—Portion of a single gathering of cells on SEM stub No. 19429 deposited at the Herbarium of the Limnological Institute, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Irkutsk (LIN). Material is from the mouth of the Belaya River, sampled by I.S. Mikhailov on 18 May 2024. Figure 6 is a representative scale from the type specimen.

Type locality:— RUSSIA: Irkutsk Region, mouth of the Belaya River. Latitude/Longitude: N 52°55.1817´/ E 103°39.1827´.

Epithet:—The specific epithet “ sibirica ” reflects the name of the species, derived from the word “Siberia”, the region from which this taxon was described.

Distribution:—To date, S. sibirica has been observed in two localities in Russia. In addition to the type locality, it has been found in mouth of the Ida River, the main tributaries of the Angara River (Table 1).

Ecology:—Cells and/or plate-scales of S. sibirica were found in the mouths of rivers in May, at temperatures ranging from 11.3 to 14.6 °C and pH values of 7.8 to 8.4 (water parameters according to Bessudova et al. 2025).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/593D87FB582D1042FE8165ED1C1CFD2E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
