Coloration. Uniformly dull yellow with few symmetrical dark brown spots and larger maculae on head, pronotum and mesonotum.

Morphology. Medium-sized leafhoppers, length 8.1 to 8.2 mm. Head slightly wider than pronotum; vertex of uniform length, upper part of face and vertex transversely rugose; face slightly wider across eyes than long, lateral margins of genae almost straight; ocelli situated at ends of lateral frontal sutures, closer to adjacent eyes than to each other; male antennae without apical disc; anteclypeus slightly projecting beyond genae, expanded apically, lateral margins slightly concave at midlength; lora small, slightly elevated above level of genae. Pronotum transversely rugose. Scutellum longer than pronotum. Forewings with 2 subapical cells, outer subapical cell closed, inner subapical cell open; appendix moderately broad, extended around wing apex slightly beyond second apical cell. Hind femoral macrosetae 2+1, hind tibial macrosetae PD 39–41, AD 19–20, AV 28. Hind basitarsus with 3 platellae on distal transverse row. Dorsal abdominal apodemes at base of male abdomen well developed and longer than ventral ones.

Male genitalia. Pygofer elongate lacking dorsoanterior apodemes, inner processes absent; both dorsoanterior fracture and anal collar present. Subgenital plates ligulate, similar in length to pygofer, with a few marginal and surface setae. Style with short basal apodeme, distal apophysis very long, curved dorsally without setae. Connective T-shaped with long stem, expanded posteriorly, and short anterolateral arms. Aedeagus with dorsal apodeme and preatrium poorly developed; aedeagal shaft slightly compressed laterally, gonopore apical, small.

Distribution. Oriental.

Diagnosis. Longicaudata belongs to the Tasnimocerus genus group of Oriental Idiocerini (Zhang, 2018) characterized by the transverse rugae on the crown and pronotum to which Dianica Zhang, Jogocerus Viraktamath, Niligiriscopus Viraktamath, Hyalinocerus Zhang & Li and Tasnimocerus Ghauri. Longicaudata differs from Dianica in having two subapical cells on the forewings and the connective expanded posteriorly. It differs from both Niligiriscopus and Tasnimocerus in having a well-developed anal collar of the pygofer, which is absent in the latter two genera. It differs from Jogocerus in lacking male pygofer processes, and from Hyalinocerus in having an elongate style lacking setae.

Remarks. Freytag (2013) described seven new species from Thailand under Longicaudata . Based on the available descriptions and illustrations, at least some of these taxa do not belong to this genus, but their type specimens were not accessible for examination. The original description of Longicaudata by Zhang & Wu (2000) was brief, with some characters inaccurately described or omitted, and included only a few line drawings without habitus photographs of the type species. These deficiencies have resulted in subsequent taxonomic confusion and controversy. The Thai species described by Freytag (2013) differ markedly from the type species in external morphology and male genitalia, and are more appropriately placed in other genera but the original descriptions and illustrations also lack important details. Although we are unable to propose new generic placements for Freytag’s species, we redescribe Longicaudata here based on two newly collected male specimens of L. trilineata, providing detailed morphological information, habitus photographs, and comprehensive illustrations of the male genitalia. These data allow a more precise redefinition of the generic characters.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/451887C47915FF9FFF217CA7FC4FF970	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Crown with three dark brown maculae: two small ones close to eyes and triangular one at median line on posterior margin. Face with irregular dark brown maculae close to median line, frontoclypeus with three longitudinal stripes: two on lateral margin, one close to median line. Pronotum with two round dark brown maculae near anterior margins. Scutellum with basal triangles dark brown, and pair of small dark submedial spots farther posterad. Forewing with a large dark brown spot on the costal margin.

Male abdominal apodemes large and elongate tubular, basal portions close together; inner margins diverging gradually from about the basal two-thirds towards the apex; distal ends attaining the anterior margin of sternite VI.

Male genitalia. Pygofer with ventral margin concave, inner process with bifurcate laterosubapical process; anal collar with a hook-shaped process. Subgenital plate, in lateral view, gently curved dorsad; in ventral view, gradually narrowed to apex, fringed with long setae. Style with distal apohysis very long and ventral margin with 3 to 4 teeth, with short lateral and mesal lobes near base, straight through most of length, gradually tapered to acute upturned apical process. Connective with dorsomedial keel well developed. Aedeagus curved dorsally, aedeagal shaft broad basally then narrowed and tapered to apex.

Measurements (mm). Male: body length 8.1-8.2, face length 2.29, width 2.81; distance between ocelli 0.84; distance from ocellus to eyes 0.39; medial length of pronotum 0.99, width 2.38; scutellum length 1.5, width 1.83.

Material examined. 1♂, CHINA, Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna, Ganlanba, 540m, 18.iii.1957, Chih-Lung Pu ; 1♂, CHINA, Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna, Damenglong, 700m, 18.iv.1957, Bangfeiluofu .

Distribution. China: Yunnan.

Remarks. The type specimens of L. trilineata were not examined. However, based on the morphological descriptions and illustrations provided by Zhang & Wu (2000), the material collected from near the type locality can be confidently assigned to this genus and identified as L. trilineata . This identification is further supported by comparisons with illustrations of the type material presented in Xue’s (2017) doctoral dissertation. The Yunnan specimens lack the small triangular lateral processes at the apex of the aedeagal shaft reported for the type material. This discrepancy may result from deformation introduced during slide preparation or from differences in viewing angle, either of which can obscure minute structural features.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/451887C47915FF9CFF217A9DFCA1F85D	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
