However, these species exhibit important differences in male genitalia. The subgenital plate of B. yarumalense is medially narrowed and then expanded apically into a globular shape. The styles have apices forming a T-shape; the ventral margin forms a pointed tip directed downward, while the dorsal margin forms a blunt tip that curves slightly upward. The subgenital plate is more similar to that of B. mae (see Flórez-V & Evangelista 2017), although slightly more quadrangular at the base and more globular at the apex.

On the other hand, the distributions of B. sakakibarai and B. yarumalense do not overlap. Bocydium sakakibarai is known from the Cordillera Occidental of Colombia, whereas B. yarumalense is so far only known from the northern part of the Cordillera Central. Bocydium sakakibarai has a broader altitudinal range, recorded from approximately 550 to 2000 masl, while B. yarumalense has been found between 1300 and 1650 masl. As with most species of the trans-Andean group, this species is associated with Melastomataceae . It was also found in the same locality as B. sanmiguelense, sharing the same host plant species (see below).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/471A8787FFC5FFCBFDFDE395B149FCF1	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The Colombian specimens have all diagnostic features originally described for this species, including the two bulb-like expansions that look subtriangular in dorsal view (Fig. 6c), lateral processes larger than lateral bulbs, coloration black to dark brown (figs. 6a–d), subgenital plate triangular and elongated, with its lobes separating near base; aedeagus U-shaped in lateral view, covered in minute denticles when saw in anterior and lateral view. Nevertheless, the specimens found in Colombia differ slightly to the type material from Bolivia (Fig. 6a–d) in having the anterior pronotal bulbs not so feeble but more robust and spherical in lateral view; the supra-antennal ledges not sharp but broad; the aedeagus in lateral view U-shaped with the posterior arm slightly larger and medially broadened, in caudal view medially narrow and apically spherical, not truncated, with denticles when viewed caudally, and the styles in lateral view not forming a zig-zag but medially broadened, with the apical tooth directed more laterally than ventrally. These variations are here interpreted as intraspecific differences present in distant populations of a single species rather than indicating that the Bolivian and Colombian populations are different species.

The nymphs of B. bilobum exhibit several differences compared to those of the trans-Andean group: their bodies are less dorsoventrally compressed, more sparsely covered with chalazae, bear slightly shorter setae, have longer abdominal lamellae, and possess a slightly longer terminal abdominal segment (Fig. 6e–h). The reduced density of setae and chalazae may be related to the host plant, which has less indumentum compared to the host plants of trans-Andean species. A similar shift in chalazae density associated with host plant characteristics has been hypothesized for Lycoderides luteus, in which nymphs found on Andesanthus lepidotus are less setose than those associated with Miconia sp. (Flórez-V et al. 2025).

Description (Fig. 6e–h): Last-instar nymph: Color: whitish yellow in preserved specimens, green-ochre in live specimens. Overall body shape: cross section subrectangular, subtriangular (rather than distinctly dorsoventrally compressed) in lateral view; thorax and abdomen with irregular lines of tubercle-shaped chalazae with subcylindrical setae, not covered completely, leaving glabrous spaces in the notum and in terga. Some subcylindrical setae, particularly on the pronotal buds, curved. Head: oriented antero-dorsally in preserved specimens and oriented vertically in live specimens; in anterior view, ventral margin straight, not excavated, with ventrolateral lobes. Thorax: nota lacking scoli; metopidium inclined forward in lateral view, elevated almost 1.5x head length above head; prothorax with anterior and lateral bulbs and posterior process buds dark; posterior process bud reaching half-length of mesonotum; ventral margin of mesothorax forewing pad emarginated medially and almost straight posteriorly. Tibiae slightly dorsoventrally flattened, with long setae along dorsal surface, especially along the anterior and posterior margins. Abdomen: Terga IV–VIII with ventrolateral lobe-like lamellae, directed obliquely posterolaterally; lateral lamellae with enlarged chalazae along margins; in dorsal view, terga III–VII with three pairs of longitudinal rows of enlarged tuberculate chalazae (white tubercles bearing subcylindrical setae), one pair near the midline, one above lateral lamellae, and one between the two previously mentioned pairs; area between these rows glabrous. Segment IX slightly longer than combined lengths of segments VI–VIII, triangular in dorsal view.

Biology: Specimens were collected on a Ludwigia sp. ( Onagraceae) located in a wetland in a lowland tropical forest. This plant dominated this ecosystem and several aggregations comprising nymphs (Fig. 8g) and adults (Fig. 8f), some of them in copulation (Fig. 8e), were found in axils, branches and leaves of this plant. Few ants ( Crematogaster sp., and Camponotus sp.) were observed tending nymphs.

Examined material: COLOMBIA. This species appears to be distributed across northern South America and Central America, with records from Costa Rica, Colombia, and Venezuela (Cryan et al. 2003). We found an adult on an Acanthaceae plant in a montane forest of the Cordillera Occidental of Colombia. However, we were unable to determine whether this is a host plant. There are no other known records of the natural history of this genus (Cryan et al. 2003).

Examined material: COLOMBIA.
