(Figs. 1, 2, 5a)

Type: ― IRAN. Kurdistan Province: Baneh to Sardasht, Allot pass, 1530 m a. s. l., 21 October 2003, H. Maroofi (holotype HKS 6515!).

Description: ―Herbs, perennial, glabrous, glaucous. Stems strongly sulcate, 90–150 cm tall, glabrous, branched above middle, branches usually alternate basally, opposite or verticillate distally. Root thick, covered with fibrous remnants of old leaves. Basal leaves 3- to 5-pinnate, minutely setulose, petiolate, 30–60 × 15–25 cm, ovate in outline; lobes linearfiliform, 30–80(–120) mm, up to 1 mm wide, deeply grooved. Upper leaves sheath-like, sheath shortly expanded, densely setulose. Involucre and involucel patent or reflexed. Bracts 4 or 5, 5–9 × 1.5–3 mm, ovate-lanceolate, acute, initially setulose, gradually glabrescent at fruiting. Bracteoles 7 or 8, 3.5–5 × 1.2–2 mm, lanceolate, acuminate, upper half and margin minutely setulose. Flowering pedicel 2–3.5 mm long. Fruiting pedicels unequal, 4–6 mm long, thick. Petals yellow, glabrous. Infructescence laxly paniculate; umbels 7- to 10(–12)-rayed, 1.3–2.5 cm long, fruiting rays stout. Mericarps ellipsoid, 13–16 × 6.5–9 mm; lateral wings 0.5–1 mm long; dorsal ridges narrowly winged (ribbed); stylopodium flat, c. 2 mm long. Calyx teeth minute. Dorsal vittae 6. Commissural vittae 6–8. Dorsal ridge much closer to one another than to laterals.

Taxonomic notes: ― Anisotaenia ghazanfarii is close to A. angulata (Schltdl.) Lyskov, Akalin & Bagheri (2025: 16) and A. carduchorum (Boiss. & Hausskn.) Lyskov, Bagheri & Akalin (2025: 16), but differs from them respectively by the following characteristics: Size of leaves (60 × 15–25 cm vs. 20–40 × 20–30 cm, 25–45 × 20–35 cm); size of segments (30–80(–120) × ± 1 mm vs. 15–30 × 0.5–2 mm, 2–20 × 1–1.5 mm), number of bracts (4–5 vs. 5–8, 5–8), and size of mericarps (13–16 × 6.5–9 mm vs. 10–12 × 6 mm, 10–12 × 6–12 mm) (for more details, see Table 1).

Phenology: ―Flowering from July to August, fruiting from September to October.

Etymology: ― Anisotaenia ghazanfarii is named in honor of the late Dr. Hedayat Ghazanfari (1968–2020), who had contributed greatly to the conservation of the Zagros oak forests. He spent 20 years to implement a management system of traditional utilization of oak forests in Baneh, Kurdistan. We, the people of Kurdistan, owe him much for all of his sacrifices and efforts. May his soul rest in peace.

Distribution and ecology: ― Anisotaenia ghazanfarii is restricted to Allot Pass, neighboring the border between Iran and Iraq (Fig. 6). The habitat of A. ghazanfarii is on gravel slopes where it is dominant. This area is known for large landslides, which occur every few years.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/3C2A87872502500C1DC54D63BE88FBD6	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Root thick, neck covered with fibrous remnants of leaves, whole plant glabrous. Stem terete, 60–120 cm long, 7–11 mm in diameter, striate to ± sulcate, unbranched. Basal leaves 40–60 × 10–18 cm, 4 or 5 pinnate, terminal segments 40–80 × 0.5 mm, filiform, entire, canaliculate. Stem leaves similar to basal but smaller, falling soon. Inflorescence thyrsoid-paniculate with numerous lateral branches, rather dense, 15–40 cm long; bracts (bractiform) supporting panicles long acuminate (those subtending branches of inflorescence amplexicaule). Rays at fruiting time 7–15, 7–12 mm long; bracts 6–7, ovate, acuminate to long apex, 10–35 × 5–10 mm; bracteoles 5–7, similar to bracts, but smaller, margin mainly ciliate. Fruiting pedicels 2–3.5 mm long, thick. Flowers more than 10. Petals yellow, glabrous. Style to 2.5 mm long, patent. Ovary glabrous. Mericarp ellipsoid-oblong, 5–7 × 3–4 mm, with 3 prominent dorsal ribs. Calyx teeth triangular, ± acuminate. Dorsal vittae 10–12. Commissural vittae 4.

Taxonomic notes: ― Anisotaenia avromanica is close to A. abbreviata (C.C. Towns.) Lyskov (2025: 16) and A. blancheana (Post ex Boiss.) Lyskov & Akalin (2025: 16) but differs from them respectively by the following characteristics: Stem surface (terete vs. striate, strongly angled); terminal segments length (40–80 mm vs. 2–5 mm, (5–)10–35(–70) mm), and shape of bracts (ovate, acuminate to long apex vs. triangular-ovate, triangular-lanceolate) (for more details, see Table 2).

Phenology: ―Flowering from August to September, fruiting from September to October.

Etymology: ―Avroman, the region where Anisotaenia avromanica was found, is the source for the species epithet.

Distribution and ecology: ― Anisotaenia avromanica is restricted to rocky, sub-alpine habitats in the Bendol mountains (Fig. 6). Anisotaenia avromanica is known from three populations. Reproduction appears to be satisfactory.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/3C2A87872500500C1DC54A17BD09F80E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
