Male. “Museé Du Congo/ Eala [DRC] / VI 1936 / J. Ghesquière“ [printed, partially hand- written] // “Genitalpräparat / coll. R.Fiebig / RF 2024.139“ [yellow label, printed], RCRF later RMCA.

Description

External morphology. Male. Forewing length 15 mm. Antenna black, bipectinate in the basal quarter with rami shortening distally, distal three quarters of antenna filiform; frons whitish, head and thorax dorsally black, thorax ventrally yellow to orange, patagium orange-reddish, tegula white with a black central spot; forewing elongate, triangular, uniformly brownish-black; hindwing similar in coloured, with a central triangular hyaline area, outer margin strongly concave; underside of both wings lighter brownish-black; legs brownish-black; abdomen black dorsally, orange-yellow ventrally.

Female. Unknown.

Genitalia. Male. In frontal view, the genital clasping apparatus is approximately as wide as tall; uncus with the same length as the tegumen, straight, triangular with a claw as an extension of the apex; gnathos present, dorsally weakly convex, with a blunt apex, almost with the same length as uncus; valva triangular, costa weakly sclerotised, apex rounded, loosely covered with short setae; sacculus slightly concave in its apical third; ampulla very short, ending in a single tip; transtilla straight, short, membranous; juxtal process large oval, with weakly developed paired, rounded lobes; saccus thin, membranous. Phallus straight, membranous, cylindrical, vesica without cornuti.

Diagnosis. Colouration and pattern (compare figs 1, 3–4). C. eala sp. nov. differs from its most similar congeners, C. nigerrima and C. hanoti, by the combination of a smaller wingspan, more elongate forewings, a strongly concave hindwing termen and partially hyaline hindwings.

Male genitalia (compare figs 5, 7–8). The valva is triangular in C. eala sp. nov. and trapezoid in C. nigerrima and C. hanoti . There are significant differences in the shape of the ampulla. In C. eala sp. nov. is it very small ending in a short tip, whereas in C. hanoti, the ampulla is club-shaped, expanding towards the margin of the valva margin, ending in three short tips, in C. nigerrima, the ampulla is digitiform and slightly curved, ending in a small pointed tip and not reaching the distal end of the valva. The juxtal process is more oval in C. eala sp. nov., whereas in C. hanoti and C nigerrima it is weakly triangular with large, paired, rounded, well-sclerotized lobes.

Ecology. Unknown.

Distribution. DRC, only known from the type locality, ecoregion: Eastern Congolian swamp forests.

Etymology. The species is named after the type locality, Eala, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/383287FB3C08FF8245D7979240691D40	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
