357FEB05FFB6FFFDFF1DF90E0ADDF9CB.taxon	distribution	Distribution, Ecology and Habitat: — This species occurs in two domains: the Chaco and Paraná domains, with distribution in Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. In Brazilian territory, specimens have been collected in the states of Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, and Santa Catarina, within the phytogeographic domains of the Cerrado and Pampa, in Cerrado vegetation and open grasslands, at altitudes ranging from 200 to 1356 m. Grossi (2025) reports its occurrence in the Southeast Region of Brazil (Minas Gerais and São Paulo); however, no specimens have been found in the collections. Additionally, it is found in Pampa vegetation in Argentina and Uruguay. The species is commonly found along trail edges and hillside slopes. Among the specimens examined, a subterranean xylopodium-type anatomical structure was recorded. This feature is typical of Cerrado vegetation and represents a fire-adaptive strategy (Fig. 3).	en	Rebouças, Natanael Costa, Amorim, Vivian Oliveira, Grossi, Mariana Andrea, Roque, Nádia, Bünger, Mariana De Oliveira (2025): A new combination and taxonomic update for Gyptis oblongifolia (Asteraceae). 357FEB05FFB6FFFDFF1DF90E0ADDF9CB.taxon	conservation	Conservation status: — The extent of occurrence (EOO) was calculated at 560,306.292 km ² and the area of occupancy (AOO) at 80,000 km ². Gyptis oblongifolia was assigned a preliminary conservation status of Least Concern (LC), according to criterion B 2, as the area of occupancy exceeds 2,000 km ² and there is no evidence of significant ongoing decline (IUCN 2024).	en	Rebouças, Natanael Costa, Amorim, Vivian Oliveira, Grossi, Mariana Andrea, Roque, Nádia, Bünger, Mariana De Oliveira (2025): A new combination and taxonomic update for Gyptis oblongifolia (Asteraceae). 357FEB05FFB6FFFDFF1DF90E0ADDF9CB.taxon	discussion	Taxonomic notes: — The species is recognized by its sessile leaf blades, scapiform capitulescence, and glabrous flowers. Nomenclatural notes: — The protologues published by Sprengel (1826: 512) and Hooker & Arnott (1835: 241), for Conyza oblongifolia Spreng. and Eupatorium elongatum Hook. & Arn., respectively, do not include information on the deposition of original materials, making immediate identification of the nomenclatural types difficult. The name Conyza oblongifolia, basionym of S. oblongifolius, was published by Sprengel, based on the material collected by Sello D. 615 (Sprengel 1826). Regarding this collection, there were three syntypes deposited in the herbaria of Berlin (B), Paris (P), and the United Kingdom (K). Although this name was later combined into different genera, as Eupatorium and Stomatanthes, no type had been designated so far. Investigations at the Berlin Herbarium (B), which housed part of Sello’s collection, failed to locate the specimen, suggesting its likely destruction during World War II, a common occurrence for materials stored there. Considering the two syntype collections recorded in herbaria K and P, it was necessary to designate a lectotype according to Article 9.17 of the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants (Turland et al. 2018). The specimen Sello D. 615 deposited at the National Museum of Natural History, Paris Herbarium (P 00579036) was chosen as the lectotype because it belongs to Sprengel’s personal collection, and bears his own identification (Fig. 4), while the specimen in herbarium K (K 000036913) is an isolectotype. Regarding E. elongatum, the authors also indicated only “ Tweedie, Brasilia meridionalis ” as the locality, with no mention of a herbarium. A specimen labelled as Tweedie s. n. and collected from that locality was located at the Kew Herbarium (K 000036912) and matches the original description. Therefore, this specimen is treated as a holotype. The name Kuhnia glabrata Candolle (1836: 127) was based on specimens collected by Gaudichaud during his expedition to Brazil. Materials numbered 1055 and 784 were located at the P and G herbaria. Among these, specimen P 00594973 was selected as the lectotype, as it is better preserved and closely matches the protologue. Specimens G 00465297 and P 00594974, originated from the same collection, were designated as isolectotypes. Specimen G 00465335, numbered 784, was treated as a syntype. The infraspecific variations — E. oblongifolium var. oblongifolium, E. oblongifolium var. elongatum (Hook. & Arn.) Baker (1876: 233), E. oblongifolium var. tucumanense Baker (1876: 233), E. oblongifolium f. odoratissimum Hassler (1916: 285), and E. oblongifolium var. oxyodontum Robinson (1934: 24) — were based on minor morphological differences and are not supported when examined in the context of broader sampling. The variations attributed to leaf margin, scent, or geographic distribution represent natural intraspecific variation and lack morphological or genetic justification for maintaining these taxa. Consequently, all of these names are treated as synonyms of Gyptis oblongifolia. To address the lack of nomenclatural decisions regarding Stomatanthes oblongifolius, a new combination Gyptis oblongifolia (Spreng.) Rebouças & Grossi is proposed, based on the same type material as for C. oblongifolia, designated here as the lectotype. Table 1 presents a summary of the nomenclatural decisions adopted in this study, including source materials, herbarium codes, and their respective ICN statuses (Turland et al. 2018).	en	Rebouças, Natanael Costa, Amorim, Vivian Oliveira, Grossi, Mariana Andrea, Roque, Nádia, Bünger, Mariana De Oliveira (2025): A new combination and taxonomic update for Gyptis oblongifolia (Asteraceae).
