GenBank: ITS = PQ451542 .

Description:— Basidiomata epigeous, medium-sized. Pileus 48–70 mm in diam., convex when young, then expanding to plano-convex with center conical, slightly brownish (1345 C) at center, grayish white (Cool Gray 1 C) to dirty white (Warm Gray 1 C) towards striate margin, glabrous. Context of pileus white, unchanged on bruising, 5–7 mm thick near the stipe. Lamellae free with lamellulae in 1–2 tiers, moderately crowded, up to 10 mm deep, pink (5035 C) to brownish pink (5015 C), edge serrated. Stipe 130–150 × 4–10 mm, slightly tapered upwards, white, glabrous, solid. Volva free from the stipe, 20–30 × 8–10 mm, relatively thick, irregularly lobed, dirty white (Warm Gray 1 C). Odor and taste indistinct.

Basidiospores [62/3/3] (14–) 14.5–18.5(–20) × (8–) 8.5–10.5(–11) μm, Q = (–1.59) 1.63–2 (–2.06), Q m = 1.81 ± 0.11, elongated amygdaliform in side view, oblong obovoid in front view, smooth, thin-walled, hyaline in water and 5% KOH, inamyloid. Basidia 35–60 × 16–23 μm, clavate, 4-spores, sterigmata 4–5 μm long. Pleurocystidia not observed. Cheilocystidia frequently clustered, 40–75 × 16–29 μm, clavate or fusoid, frequently with a narrow apical extension, hyaline, thin-walled. Pleurocystidia not observed. Pileipellis 150–200 μm thick, ixocutiform, composed of procumbent hyphae, 4–12 μm diam, thin-walled, hyaline, occasionally incrusted; terminal elements blunt, 25–50 × 4– 7 μm. Volva made up of filamentous hyphae, 5–12 μm diam, thin-walled, hyaline. Clamp connections not observed.

Habitat and distribution:—solitarily distributed in the weeds on the Leoss Plateau.

Notes:— Volvopluteus longipes shares similar morphology with V. asiaticus, V. delicious, V. gloiocephalus, and V. michiganensis by their medium to large-sized basidiomata, white to greyish white pileus, white stipe, and membranous volva. However, V. asiaticus is distinguished by its shorter stipe (85–100 mm) and smaller basidiospores (12–14.5 × 7.0–8.5 μm). V. delicious can be differentiated by its thicker stipe (up to 27 mm) and variable-shaped pleurocystidia. V. gloiocephalus is notable for its unpleasant or raphanoid odour and taste. Volvopluteus michiganensis is characterized by its smaller basidiospores (10.5–13.5 × 6.5–8.0 μm) and readily observable pleurocystidia.
