Coloration. Body uniformly yellowish brown, with dark brown spots on pronotum, mesonotum, and fore legs (coxa and femur).

Morphology. Head wider than pronotum; crown slightly narrower medially than near eyes. Face wider across eyes than long; lateral margins of genae slightly concave. Ocelli situated above ends of lateral frontal sutures, closer to adjacent eyes than to each other.Antennal flagellum in male without distal dilation.Anteclypeus slightly projecting beyond genae, apically expanded; lora narrow and elongate. Pronotum finely shagreen. Scutellum broader than long and longer than combined length of crown and pronotum. Forewings with four apical cells and three subapical cells; outer subapical cell smallest; central and outer subapical cells closed; inner subapical cell longest and open basally; appendix moderately broad. Hind femoral macrosetal formula 2+0; hind tibial macrosetae PD 24–26, AD 6–8, AV 7–9. Hind basitarsus with three platellae on distal transverse row.

Male genitalia. Pygofer with a dorsolateral fracture; anterior basal fracture absent; dorsal anterior apodeme poorly developed along anterior margin; ventral margin of pygofer slightly concave along posterior half. Anal collar (modified segment X) well developed and fused to dorsal bridge of pygofer. Subgenital plates elongate, distinctly longer than pygofer, bearing sparse long hair-like setae. Style elongate; apophysis tubular, of nearly uniform width to apex, slightly curved dorsad; apex bearing a subapical row of stout, short setae and a large tooth-like process near ventral margin. Connective T-shaped. Aedeagus with shaft elongate, gonopore subapical on ventral surface; preatrium small; dorsal apodeme well developed and apically laterally expanded.

Female genitalia. Sternite VII convexly produced; posterior margin of median area narrowly concave in ventral view. Ovipositor strongly projecting beyond pygofer; second valvula slightly elongate, nearly uniform in width except narrowing to an acute apex; dorsal margin serrated, with approximately 5–6 teeth near subapex.

Host plant. Salicaceae ( Populus spp.).

Distribution. Central Asia, East Asia and the Russian Far East.

Remarks. Parocerus closely resembles Populicerus in overall appearance but differs in having males without an apical antennal disc (present in Populicerus), three platellae on the first hind tarsomere (two in Populicerus), male subgenital plates nearly straight and distinctly longer than pygofer lobes (variously dorsally curved and only slightly longer than pygofer in Populicerus). It further differs in structure of the style, the apical portion of which bears a compact cluster of short setae, whereas in Populicerus a lateral apical process bears several stout long setae.

Checklist of the genus Parocerus

Parocerus laurifoliae (Vilbaste, 1965) China: Gansu, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Ningxia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Xizang; Kazakhstan, Korea; Mongolia; Russia.

Parocerus lii Zhang sp. nov.
