Zootaxa 5782 (3): 557-570, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.5782.3.8, URL: https://doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.5782.3.8
334087BDFFEDFFB204BEFD00FDBCFA33.taxon	discussion	Note. This genus is very diverse in its male genitalic structure. The genus is divided into four subgenera: nominotypical subgenus having a pair of characteristic posterolateral lobules on the epiphallus (these epiphallic lobules are usually narrow and semisclerotized but with medially curved apical portions) and lacking flat membranous lobes on the more medial parts of the posterior epiphallic edge (Figs 29, 32, 34, 38, 41, 43, 46); the subgenus Papuloria Gorochov, 1996 with more diverse posterolateral epiphallic parts and a pair of flat membranous lobes between these parts (these lobes are usually transparent and poorly distinct, but sometimes they are fused with each other or semi-sclerotized); the subgenera Trelloria Gorochov, 1996 and Sulaweloria Gorochov, 2011 with different genital characters. There is also the genus Tremellia Stål, 1877 which is similar to Phaloria (Phaloria) in the structure of its posterolateral epiphallic lobules and may be considered a fifth subgenus of the genus Phaloria. The three latter taxa are distinctly morphologically different and having rather narrow distribution: Trelloria is living on New Guinea and Solomon Islands; Sulaweloria, on Sulawesi; Tremellia is distributed from the Philippines to Singapore and Sulawesi. However, Phaloria (Phaloria) and Phaloria (Papuloria) are more problematic subgenera. The true representatives of Phaloria (Phaloria) are likely to known from the Philippines; some species currently classified under the subgenus Phaloria (Phaloria) but distributed outside of the Philippines have unknown or somewhat different structure of the male genitalia. These taxa are in need of a reassessment of their subgeneric / generic position. Papuloria is widely distributed from the Seychelles to Australia and Oceania (its species are most numerous in Papuan Region) as well as very diverse in both the male genitalia and the general appearance. However, many of its species are still insufficiently studied relative to the male genitalia, because the above-mentioned transparent epiphallic lobes may be invisible on the photographs and unappreciated by researchers. Therefore, all such species need to be studied further.	en	Gorochov, Andrei V., Daguplo, Jiandy, Tan, Ming Kai (2026): The taxonomy of the cricket subfamily Phaloriinae (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) in the Philippines. 334087BDFFEBFFB404BEF9B9FC8DF86A.taxon	discussion	Note. The above male is rather similar to the holotype of this species which was described from the Philippines but without precise data. This male has almost black R and M in the lateral tegminal field as well as more dark (dark grayish brown) majority of veins in the dorsal tegminal field (Fig. 48), and its genitalia are slightly different in shape (compare Figs 56 – 58 and 59 – 61). Herein, this species is represented with a precise locality, but it is possible that it belongs to another subspecies than the above-mentioned holotype.	en	Gorochov, Andrei V., Daguplo, Jiandy, Tan, Ming Kai (2026): The taxonomy of the cricket subfamily Phaloriinae (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) in the Philippines. 334087BDFFEBFFB404BEFE8DFE5BFA36.taxon	description	Description. Male (holotype). Body very similar to that of Ph. (Ph.) luzoni sp. nov. (including size and coloration; Figs 7, 8) but with some differences in tegminal venation and structure of genitalia: tegminal mirror slightly more transverse (Fig. 8), almost 1.3 times as wide as long and approximately 1.1 times as long as apical area (in Ph. (Ph.) luzoni sp. nov., these ratios about 1.2 and 1.3, respectively); tegminal lateral field with 8 – 9 cross-veins in widened R – M area and 25 – 27 Sc branches; abdominal apex indistinguishable from that of this species but with following characteristic features of genitalia (Figs 43 – 47): epiphallus less convex anteriorly and less concave posteriorly, with slightly shorter but more notched posteromedian projection, a pair of small (thin) spinules om anteromedian edge, and almost angularly curved apical parts of posterior lobules (these lobules separated from main epiphallic body by membranous portions); ectoparameres less massive and less curved upwards in distal part; endoparameres with slightly narrower sub-posterior parts and with medial parts located very near each other but not fused with each other; rachis with less deep posteromedian notch, fused with formula; V-shaped anterior tongues of formula wider and shorter; additional sclerites around posterior part of rachis clearly smaller and plate-like (nonarcuate or non-falcate). Female. General appearance practically indistinguishable from that of female of Ph. (Ph.) luzoni sp. nov. (including shape of genital plate), but number of tegminal veins and cross-veins insignificantly varied, and ovipositor rather diverse in coloration: from mainly dark brown (approximately as in Fig. 27) to light brown with brown marks (almost as in Fig. 24). Length in mm. Body: male 15.0, female 14.0 – 14.5; body with wings: male 21.0, female 19.7 – 20.5; pronotum: male 3.5, female 3.2 – 3.6; tegmina: male 16.5, female 13.5 – 14.0; hind femora: male 14.5, female 13.5 – 14.0; ovipositor 6.0 – 6.3.	en	Gorochov, Andrei V., Daguplo, Jiandy, Tan, Ming Kai (2026): The taxonomy of the cricket subfamily Phaloriinae (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) in the Philippines. 334087BDFFEBFFB404BEFE8DFE5BFA36.taxon	discussion	Comparison. The new species is most similar to Ph. (Ph.) luzoni sp. nov. and Ph. (Ph.) modulator in the male genital structure, but it is distinguished by the characters listed in the above description (from Ph. (Ph.) luzoni sp. nov.), as well as by a distinctly narrower notch of the epiphallic posteromedian projection and the ectoparameres clearly more transverse (from Ph. (Ph.) modulator). From all other species of this subgenus, the new species is distinguished by the same characters as Ph. (Ph.) luzoni sp. nov. (including the endoparameres not fused with each other, and the rachis fused with the formula).	en	Gorochov, Andrei V., Daguplo, Jiandy, Tan, Ming Kai (2026): The taxonomy of the cricket subfamily Phaloriinae (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) in the Philippines. 334087BDFFE6FFB904BEFF18FE60FA4B.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. General appearance very similar to that of genus Trellius (Figs 49 – 53): body rather dark, spotted; head roundly triangular in front, with rostrum between antennal cavities almost 1.5 times as narrow as scapes; wings long, with male tegmina moderately wide and having venation typical of genus Trellius, and with hind wings distinctly protruding beyond tegminal apices; legs with outer tympanum open and oval, with inner tympanum distinctly slit-like, and with dorsal spines and apical spurs of hind tibia moderately long and weekly pubescent (but in genus Trellius, these spines and spurs often longer and more strongly pubescent); abdominal apex also typical of this genus, with moderately elongate male genital plate having distinct angular apical notch, and with female genital plate rather short and wide as well as having rounded apical notch. Male genitalia moderately long and narrow, and with following features (Figs 62 – 66): epiphallus short (transverse), fused with long rami; ectoparameres large (high but not very long), almost vertical, located completely after epiphallic sclerite, with concave medial surfaces having a pair of ventromedial membranous lobules; endoparameres long, fused with ectoparameres as well as having thin transverse medial arms (almost contacting with each other) and moderately short anterior apodemes; rachis strongly reduced, possibly consisting of small bifurcate sclerite (fused with posteromedian part of epiphallus) and a pair of small semi-sclerotized vesicles located near each other and near apices of latter sclerite; formula similar to that in majority of representatives of genus Trellius, consisting of small and anteriorly bifurcate plate having large (very long and rather high) and vertically lamellar apodeme directed posteriorly; rami with anterior ends located rather far from each other (i. e., not fused and not almost contacting with each other). Ovipositor rather long and with drilling distal part which more or less similar to that of genus Phaloria (i. e., this part distinguished from that of genus Trellius by slightly more rounded apical teeth; Fig. 54). Composition. Type species only.	en	Gorochov, Andrei V., Daguplo, Jiandy, Tan, Ming Kai (2026): The taxonomy of the cricket subfamily Phaloriinae (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) in the Philippines. 334087BDFFE6FFB904BEFF18FE60FA4B.taxon	discussion	Comparison. The new genus differs from the genus Trellius mainly in the inner tympanum distinctly slit-like, and in the male genitalia with the following characters: the rami are widely separated from each other anteriorly (vs. the rami are often anteriorly fused or almost contacting with each other); the epiphallus lacks any long lobes or processes; the ectoparameres are large but not long and completely located behind the epiphallus; the endoparameres are long and fused with the ectoparameres, but their medial arms are thin and almost contacting with each other, and their anterior apodemes are rather short; rachis is strongly reduced. From all the other genera of Phaloriini, Pseudotrellius gen. nov. differs in the same characters (except for the rami structure) and usually the characteristic shape of the male genital formula (this formula in the new genus has a large lamellar apodeme directed posteriorly as in the genus Trellius, but in the majority of other genera, this formula lacks such apodeme).	en	Gorochov, Andrei V., Daguplo, Jiandy, Tan, Ming Kai (2026): The taxonomy of the cricket subfamily Phaloriinae (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) in the Philippines. 334087BDFFE7FFB804BEF9D5FAF0F86A.taxon	discussion	Note. The male here studied originates from a southern part of the Palawan Island, and it is somewhat different in the male genitalia from the holotype of this species collected in a northern part of this island. These genitalia (in comparison to this holotype) have a partly reduced anterior half: their rami are distinctly shorter, and their formula is indistinct. It is possible that these genitalia are insufficiently sclerotized, because this male died soon after its imaginal molt, or that two closely related species (northern and southern) live on the Palawan Island.	en	Gorochov, Andrei V., Daguplo, Jiandy, Tan, Ming Kai (2026): The taxonomy of the cricket subfamily Phaloriinae (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) in the Philippines.
