2E238791FFEB165D2FFB746CFEA5FCD0.taxon	discussion	Remarks. For the most recent diagnoses of Praedatrypaea Poore, Dworschak, Robles, Mantelatto & Felder, 2019, see Poore (2023). The genus is characterized by the prominent anterolateral lobes separated by weak calcification from the rest of the telson and a tooth on the distal margin of the merus of maxilliped 3 (except for P. orientalis (Bate, 1888 )). The monophyly of Praedatrypaea was supported by molecular evidence of recent studies (Robles et al. 2020; Kou & Poore 2025). In addition, this genus was located at the most basal position of the phylogenetic tree of Callianassidae (cf. Robles et al. 2020: figs 1, 3; Kou & Poore 2025: figs 1, 2), indicating it could represent the earliest-diverged lineage of extant callianassid shrimps. Praedatrypaea is recorded only from the western Pacific (nine spp.) and western Indian (two spp.) oceans, at water depths ranging from 27 to 695 meters. Distributions and depth ranges of these species are given in Table 2. Poore (2023) provided a key to ten of the 11 species of Praedatrypaea.	en	Kou, Qi, Poore, Gary C. 2E238791FFEB16572FFB7356FC60FD57.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The rostrum of the species varies in length. The rostrum “ does not reach the tip of the eyestalks ” in a male specimen from Siboga stn 116 (cf. Sakai 1999: 48), or “ reaches until the distal end of the 1 st joint of the antennular peduncle ” in the female lectotype from Siboga stn 261 (cf. De Man 1928: 124), or slightly overreaches the distal margin of antennular peduncle article 1 in the present specimen. In De Man’s illustration (1928: pl. 10 fig. 16) of the female lectotype, the dorsal surface of uropodal endopod is armed with three widely spaced long spiniform setae close to distoposterior margin and has four stout setae on the anterolateral margin. In our specimen, there are only two closely spaced long spiniform setae on the dorsal surface of uropodal endopod and seven stout setae on the anterolateral margin (Fig. 4 D). Liu (2010) pointed out that the male minor cheliped also varies among specimens from Beibu Gulf, including an individual with extremely elongated fingers with a remarkably extensive gap (cf. Liu 2010: fig. 59 G). Sakai (1999) asserted that De Man’s illustration (1928: pl. 11 fig. 16 e) is not of the pereopod 3 but pereopod 4. However, observations on our specimen (Figs 3 C – F) confirmed that De Man’s illustration was correct. Praedatrypaea modesta is uniquely identified by this combination of characters: chelipeds without proximal tooth on upper margin of merus; maxilliped 3 merus with tooth on distal margin; pereopod 3 propodus about four times as long as wide; major cheliped fingers with irregular teeth along cutting edges; and dorsal face of uropodal endopod with 2 or 3 long spiniform setae close to the distoposterior margin.	en	Kou, Qi, Poore, Gary C.
