Shells only; soft bodies were not preserved .

Diagnosis.

Same as the genus.

Description of shell.

Shell conical, thin, transparent. Whorls 5 to 6, growing regularly, slightly convex on upper side, flat on base. Red brown bands above the keel. Periphery with acute keel. Shell with delicate, dense and oblique growth lines. Aperture widely ovate, moderately oblique. Umbilicus narrow, but open.

Description of genitalia.

(Fig. 3). Atrium (At) short, cylindrical. Penis (P) cylindrical, long; penial wall double-layered, both layers thick and smooth; flagellum absent. Penis sheath (PS) approximately 1 / 3 of penis length. Vas deferens (VD) long and narrow, extending from free oviduct. Penial retractor muscle (PR) short and slightly thickened. Dart sac (DS) cylindrical, slightly expanded distally. Right proximal accessory sac (PAS) present, not protruding and invisible externally. Love dart (Dt) curved, slightly constricted medially (Fig. 3 D); anterior half with short villi on surface, cross-section cylindrical; distal portion enlarged, cross-section fusiform. Mucus glands (MG) 3, slightly convoluted, unbranched or only bifurcated. Dart sac retractor muscle (DSR) distinct; anterior two-thirds parallel to and slightly fused with atrium and vagina; distal end attached to ventral side of dart sac (Fig. 3 C); internally with numerous parallel septa. Vagina (Va) cylindrical; vaginal wall with several longitudinal vaginal pilasters (VP). Gametolytic duct (GD) slender, without distinct thickening. Free oviduct (FO) about as long as vagina, distinctly swollen between gametolytic duct and vas deferens. Oviduct (Ov) enlarged with curled lobules. Albumen gland (AG) curved ligulate. Hermaphroditic duct (HD) robust and convoluted.

Remarks.

The new species can be distinguished from Ganesella capitium (W. H. Benson, 1848), Ganesella carinella (Möllendorff, 1902), and Globotrochus onestera (Mabille, 1887) (Sutcharit et al. 2019) by the following combination of characters: penis distinctly longer than the atrium and vagina, lacking both an epiphallus and a flagellum; penial wall double-layered, with the inner surface devoid of penial pilasters and a penial verge. Penial retractor muscle thick and short. Dart sac present, containing a single love dart. Mucus glands present. Dart sac retractor muscle distinct, arising from the right side of the dart sac; distal end attached to the ventral side of the dart sac. Vaginal pilasters connected by dense, irregular transverse ribs on the flanks. Hermaphroditic duct stout and strongly convoluted.

Compared with Ganesella rhombostoma (Pfeiffer, 1861) and Ganesella emma (L. Pfeiffer, 1863) (Páll-Gergely et al. 2020), the new species differs in the following combination of characters: shell usually with more than five whorls; peripheral color band situated above the peripheral keel.

Compared with Satsuma stenozona (Möllendorff, 1884) (Zhou et al. 2011), the new species differs in the following combination of characters: penis lacking a penial caecum, epiphallus, and flagellum; penial wall double-layered. Dart sac present, containing a single love dart. Mucus glands present. Dart sac retractor muscle distinct, arising from the right side of the dart sac; distal end attached to the ventral side of the dart sac. Base of the gametolytic duct not expanded. Hermaphroditic duct stout and strongly convoluted.

Compared with Plectotropis brevibarbis (L. Pfeiffer, 1859) and Plectotropis yonganensis W. - C. Zhou, Q. Xiao, D. - N. Chen & C. - C. Hwang, 2011 (Zhou et al. 2011), the new species differs in the following combination of characters: penis lacking an epiphallus and a flagellum; penial wall double-layered. Dart sac retractor muscle distinct on the right side of the dart sac; distal end attached to the ventral side of the dart sac; base of the gametolytic duct not expanded; hermaphroditic duct stout and strongly convoluted.

Species from China and Southeast Asia that lack anatomical and molecular evidence but have shell shapes similar to those of the genus Yuyao gen. nov. (Gredler 1885; Bavay and Dautzenberg 1909, 1915; Yen 1939; Chen and Gao 1987) currently include Ganesella trochacea (Gredler, 1885) (Gredler 1885), Aegista packhaensis (Bavay & Dautzenberg, 1909) (Bavay and Dautzenberg 1909), and Globotrochus mellea (Bavay & Dautzenberg, 1915) (Bavay and Dautzenberg 1915) . However, the new species can be distinguished from these by its shell surface with red-brown bands and a sharp keel on the periphery.

Etymology.

The species is named after Yue-Ming He, who first discovered the new species and assisted with the field survey.

Vernacular name.

何氏玉瑶螺 (He shi yu yao luo).

Habitat and distribution.

This species has only been found in forests on karst limestone at the type locality (Fig. 4).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/9DE2BBF9828D5A1A9317254AA1674CB5	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Compared with species of Karaftohelix, Acusta, Bradybaena, and Ezohelix, as well as those of Landouria Godwin-Austen, 1918 (Pilsbry 1900, 1927; Chen and Zhang 2004; Nurinsiyah et al. 2019; Serniotti et al. 2019), Yuyao heyuemingi sp. nov. can be distinguished by the presence of a distinct dart sac retractor muscle arising from the right side of the dart sac, with its distal end attached to the ventral side of the dart sac. This structure has not been reported in any other known species and is herein recognized as the dart sac retractor muscle. Furthermore, Yuyao heyuemingi sp. nov. has an acute keel on the shell periphery.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/67B27A987FA2583AABA570D1B38D929C	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
