M. Li, K. Habib & Q. R. Li. 2025

Thysanorea tongrensis W.M. Li, K. Habib & Q.R. Li. sp. nov. Fig. 2.

Mycobank No: 859449

Etymology: —The specific epithet “ tongrensis ” refers to its collection location, Tongren city.

Description: —Saprobic on unknown dead wood. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Colonies on the substratum superficial, effuse, scattered, hairy, brightly colored, glistening. Mycelium partly superficial, partly immersed, composed of septate, pale brown, smooth hyphae. Conidiophores 180–414 × 3–8 µm (x̅ = 263.5 × 5 µm, n = 30), mononematous, macronematous, scattered, unbranched, erect, straight or flexuous, cylindrical, thin toward apex, smooth, dark brown at the base and gradually paler towards the apex, 8–15-septate. Conidiogenous cells 12–27 × 2–5 µm (x̅ = 17.5 × 3.7 µm, n = 30), holoblastic, polyblastic, integrated, sympodially proliferating, terminal becoming intercalary, pale brown or subhyaline. Conidia 24–38 × 5–8 µm (x̅ = 31 × 6.5 µm, n = 30), acrogenous, long fusiform, hyaline, solitary, sometimes with secondary conidia, immature conidia aseptate, becoming 3-septate when mature smooth. Conidial secession schizolytic.

Culture characteristics: —Conidia germinated on WA medium within 24 hours. Colonies on PDA medium reached a diameter of 20–25 mm after 6 weeks at 24℃ in darkness. These colonies appeared subcircular and convex, and velvety off-white mycelium. The reverse side exhibited a light brown to grayish green and then to green coloration with a smooth margin.

Material examined: — CHINA, Guizhou Province, Tongren City, Fodingshan National Nature Reserve, (27°23′0.43″N, 108°7′30.31″E), elevation: 1117 m, on dead wood, 10 August 2024, Wenmei Li, 2024FDSZNF31- 2 (GMB6907, Holotype; GMBC6907 ex-type; KUN-HKAS146994, Isotype); GenBank accession number: ITS: PX621501; LSU: 621503; SSU: PX627867 .

Additional material examined (paratype): CHINA, Guizhou Province, Tongren City, Fodingshan National Nature Reserve, (27°23′1.56″N, 108°7′20.38″E), elevation: 518 m, on dead wood, 10 August 2024, Wenmei Li, 2024FDSZNF27 (GMB6901; living culture GMBC6901, GenBank accession number: ITS: PX621996; LSU: 621997; SSU: PX627867) .

Notes: In the phylogenetic tree (Fig. 1), Thysanorea tongrensis forms a close relationship with T. curvata . However, the two species are readily distinguishable based on conidiophore and conidial size. Thysanorea tongrensis possesses longer conidiophores (180–415 µm vs. 150–230 µm) and larger conidia (24–38 × 5–8 µm vs. 16–18 × 6.5–7.5 µm). Additionally, the conidia of T. tongrensis are hyaline, whereas those of T. curvata are distinctly pale brown (Liu et al. 2015). Comparative nucleotide sequence analysis revealed that T. tongrensis differs from T. curvata (MFLUCC 15-0259) by 2.3% (13 nucleotide differences and 5 gaps out of 567 bp) in the ITS region, and by 0.3% (2 nucleotide differences out of 852 bp) in the LSU region.

Morphologically, Thysanorea tongrensis is similar to T. asiatica, T. aquatica and T. lotorum in having mononematous, macronematous, septate conidiophores and multiseptate conidia when mature. However, T. tongrensis can be distinguished from T. asiatica by its fewer septa (3 vs. 3–6) and longer conidia (24–38 µm vs. 13–32 µm). Compared to T. aquatica, the conidia of T. tongrensis possess fewer septa (3 vs. 3–6) and are slightly shorter (24–38 µm vs. 27–43 µm) (Liu et al. 2015). In comparison with T. lotorum, T. tongrensis has longer conidiophores (180–415 µm vs. 130–230 µm), but less septate (3 vs. 7–8) and slightly shorter (24–38 × 5–8 µm vs. 25–50 × 3.0–8.5 µm) conidia (Hernández-Restrepo et al. 2020; Shen et al. 2022).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/046887F1FF82FF91FF0B7ECAB84E76C5	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
