Vagina sub-medial, funnel-shaped, with an aperture with a rugose aspect; vaginal canal sclerotized, looping on itself. Seminal receptacle rounded. Germarium fusiform, 46 (40–56; n = 5) long and 24 (18–28; n = 5) wide. Mehlis’ gland, oviduct, ootype, and uterus not observed. Vitelline follicles extending from the pharynx and surpassing the confluence of the intestinal ceca.

Remarks: Diaphorocleidus santosclappae sp. nov. is assigned to the genus by the combination of the following characters: (1) an unarticulated MCO and accessory piece; (2) a coiled MCO with counterclockwise rings; (3) a vaginal pore near body mid-length; (4) sclerotized, tubular vagina; (5) seven pairs of hooks comprised two subunits, proximal subunit expanded. The new species differs from the other species of Diaphorocleidus in the position of the sub-medial vaginal aperture and by this structure presenting a rugous aspect. Diaphorocleidus santosclappae sp. nov. resembles Diaphorocleidus forcipiformis Silva, Meneses, Cohen & Justo, 2024, Diaphorocleidus magnus Zago, Franceschini, Abdallah, Müller, Azevedo & Silva, 2021 and Diaphorocleidus radius Carvalho, Diniz, Sousa & Yamada, 2026 in the morphology of MCO, which comprises a sclerotized tube of 2 ½ counterclockwise rings. However, Diaphorocleidus santosclappae sp. nov. differs from those species by the accessory piece non-subdivided, comprising a rod-like structure with a lateral projection at its proximal end and a cap-like ornamentation at its distal end, while in those species the accessory piece is composed by two subunits; in D. forcipiformis the accessory piece is represented as a claw-shaped structure; in D. radius it is represented as a sclerotized structure articulated with the MCO, claw-shaped; in D. magnus it comprises a wrench-shaped piece. Diaphorocleidus machacae Mendoza-Franco, Caspeta-Mandujano & Ramírez-Martínez, 2019 also exhibits a non-subdivided rod-shaped accessory piece, but differs from D. santosclappae sp. nov. for not presenting a lateral projection nor a terminal cap-like ornamentation in this structure. The new species also differs from D. forcipiformis, D. machacae, D. magnus, and D. radius by presenting ventral and dorsal anchors of almost the same size, while in those species the ventral anchor is bigger than the dorsal anchor.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/02141C6DA5612166889CFB299EBEFB62	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Cephalic region poorly developed, with inconspicuous lobes. Three pairs of head organs; cephalic glands not observed. Three pairs of eyespots, subcircular, anterior pair smaller than posterior pair; in some specimens the third pair is not seen. Pharynx spherical, 23 (18–27; n = 7) in diameter; esophagus short; two intestinal ceca, confluent posteriorly to testis. Haptor subcircular, 58 (33–71; n = 9) wide. Ventral anchor with beak-like superficial root and well-developed deep root, tip truncate, slightly curved shaft and short point, 16 (10–18; n = 10) long, base 9 (7–11; n = 10) wide; point not exceeding the superficial root tip. Dorsal anchor with well developed, elongated superficial root and short deep root, curved shaft and slightly curved point, 24 (22–30; n = 10) long, base 16 (14–19; n = 10) wide; point not exceeding the superficial root tip. Ventral bar trident-shaped, with long anteromedial and posteromedial projections, posteromedial projection with fan-like base, 13 (8–16; n = 8) wide. Dorsal bar rod-shaped, 22 (18–24; n = 8) wide. Hook pairs slightly dissimilar in shape of bulbous base, dissimilar in size; pairs 1 and 5 with a discrete bulbous base, remaining pairs with expanded bulbous base; all hook pairs with slender shank, upright thumb, slightly curved shaft and short point. Pairs 1 and 5, 9 (8–10; n = 11) long; pairs 2–4 and 6–7, 12 (9–17; n = 32) long. Filamentous hook (FH) loop almost entire length of the shank. Testis ovate, 22 and 31 long, and 21 and 27 wide. Vas deferens looping left intestinal cecum. Seminal vesicle a dilatation of vas deferens, fusiform. Prostatic reservoir saccate. MCO consisting of a sinuous tube with a base composed of flanges, 27 (25–30; n = 10) in length. Germarium fusiform, 52 and 54 long, 26 and 32 wide. Oviduct, Mehlis’ gland, ootype not observed. Uterus delicate. Egg oval, operculated, with a small polar node, 46 and 50 long, and 30 and 38 wide. Seminal receptacle rounded. Vaginal aperture sinistroventral, sclerotized, fin-shaped. Vitelline follicles extending from the level of the pharynx and exceeding the confluence of the intestinal ceca.

Remarks: Jainus mataatlanticaensis sp. nov. is assigned to the genus by the combination of the following traits: (1) non-articulated MCO and accessory piece; (2) sinistral vagina; (3) ventral anchor with elongate, rod-like deep root and flattened superficial root; (4) dorsal anchor base bifurcate with well-developed superficial and deep roots. Jainus mataatlanticaensis sp. nov. can be distinguished from other congeners by possessing a well-defined trident-shaped ventral bar. Jainus hexops Kritsky & Leiby, 1972 is the only species that possesses a ventral bar resembling a trident-shaped structure, but it cannot be characterized as that in the new species. Jainus mataatlanticaensis sp. nov. also resembles J. hexops in the morphology of MCO, which is represented as a wavy tube, and by the presence of three pairs of eyespots, observed in some specimens of the present study, but differs from J. hexops by having a pear-shaped accessory piece with membranous wall and sclerotized edges, while the latter species exhibits a U-shaped accessory piece. In addition, Jainus mataatlanticaensis sp. nov. differs from J. hexops by having hook pairs similar in shape, with hook pairs 1 and 5 slightly different from the other pairs, while the previously described species presents hook pairs notably dissimilar in shape.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/02141C6DA5632168889CFAC39C43FC18	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
