The present interpretation of the species is based on photographs of the specimens provided by The University Museum, The University of Tokyo and illustrations from Kato (1928).

Initially placed by Kato in Formocentrus in 1928, the species was transferred to Sipylus later that year (Kato, 1928; Funkhouser, 1943). Following further study, it was eventually placed in Indicopleustes (Yuan & Chou, 2002; Dmitriev, 2022). During this period, the species was recorded by Esaki (1932), with illustrations included in the publication. Subsequently, Metcalf and Wade (1965) incorrectly attributed Indicopleustes typicus to Esaki, 1932 rather than Kato, 1928, creating an objective homonymy and leading Dmitriev & Deitz (2017) to propose a replacement name, Indicopleustes esakii Dmitriev & Deitz, 2017 . This name is a synonym of Indicopleustes typicus (Kato, 1928) .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03B8879FFFBBFFBDAED6A144D965FE32	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
