Type species: Macrobathra chrysotoxa Meyrick, 1886, by subsequent designation (Meyrick, in Wytsman, 1922).

Leurozancla Turner, 1933: 173 . Type species: Leurozancla humilis Turner, 1933, by monotypy.

Diagnosis. Macrobathra can be identified by the following characters: second segment of the labial palpi shorter than third segment; scape of the antenna elongated; forewing veins R 4 and R 5 stalked; hindwing veins M 3 and CuA 1 stalked; brachia of uncus of male genitalia usually symmetric, rarely asymmetric; valva of male genitalia usually setose distally; accessory bursae arising from ductus bursae usually present in female genitalia; pair of signa present in the corpus bursae usually equal in size (Meyrick 1886; Zhang & Li 2023).

According to Zhang & Li (2023), Macrobathra is similar to Pancalia Stephens, 1829 because they share some characters, such as the labial palpi configuration, the venation on both fore- and hindwings, and the aedeagus separated from the anellus. The two genera can be distinguished by the following characters: metallic stripes on the forewing are usually presented in Macrobathra but absent in Pancalia; the aedeagus of the former is usually straight and slender whereas that of the latter is often strongly bent and stout.

Key to the Macrobathra species from Taiwan based on external characters

1 A costal yellow spot present in distal 1/4 of forewing........................................... Male (Fig. 1): Antennal length 3.6 – 4.5 mm (n = 2), forewing length 5.8 – 6.2 mm (n = 2). Head: Antenna dark brown, scape with a white longitudinal line on its outer surface, flagellum ringed with white; labial palpus elongated and upcurved, second palpomere slender, dark brown scales mixed with white scales, third palpomere nearly as long as second palpomere, dark brown, with a white longitudinal line dorsally and ventrally; vertex and frons smooth-scaled, dark brown, each side of frons tinged with white scales. Thorax: Surface and tegula dark brown. Legs: Foreleg dark brown, distal part of tarsus paler; midleg dark brown, mid tibia with a pair of distal spurs, with inner longer than outer, distal end of mid tibia ringed with white, mid tarsus with second, third and last tarsomere paler than others; hindleg dark brown, hind tibia ringed with white medially and apically, with a pair of medial spurs and a pair of apical spurs, both with inner longer than outer, hind tarsus somewhat paler toward apical end. Abdomen: Surface dark brown, basal dorsum with a patch of metallic light brown or dark purplish scales; caudal end with light brown tufts. Forewing: Elongate and lanceolate in shape; ground color dark brown; median yellow fascia somewhat broad, running across basal quarter to half of forewing, with basal and distal margin white, an unobvious dark brown line present along costa; fringes color similar to ground color. Hindwing: Ground color and fringes color dark brown; vannal tuft a bundle of long dark grey hairs present along basal vein 2A.

Female (Fig. 2): Antennal length 3.5 – 4.5 mm (n = 3), forewing length 5.5 – 6.6 mm (n = 3). Most characters are similar to the males, except for the obvious transverse dark brown stripe on the median fascia of the forewing, and the inconspicuous basal metallic patch on the dorsal abdomen.

Male genitalia (Figs. 8, 9): Brachia of uncus robust, sinuate and tapering toward apex, scarcely setose at basal half; tegumen broad, scarcely setose at dorsal half near uncus, somewhat widened ventrad; vinculum slender coneshaped; two valvae asymmetrical, left valva moderately wide with distal end slightly narrowed, forming rounded end, moderately setose in middle third, densely hairy at distal third, right valva club-shaped, narrow at basal 2/3, flattened to ovoid and moderately setose at distal third; anellus moderately large, without any process; aedeagus stout, slightly bent, two forms of cornuti present, one as rod-like sclerites, one with basal third a handle-like sclerite, middle third a small sclerite with short and stout spines on its surface, distal third a bunch of numerous spines.

Female genitalia (Figs. 12, 13): Length of apophyses anteriores about half length of apophyses posteriores; seventh sternite with a pair of subquadrate processes posteriorly near sterigma, covered with many setae; sterigma with a sclerotized ring; ductus bursae with an accessory bursae situated at posterior 1/4, a stick-like cestum arising from accessory bursae and extending toward sterigma; corpus bursae oval, with a pair of curved horn-shaped signa slightly different in size and shape, larger one bent at half, smaller one bent at distal third.

Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished by the following characters: in appearance, its forewing has no additional patterns except for the median fascia and the median fascia is slightly contracted toward dorsum; in the male genitalia, it can be quickly identified by its slender brachia of the uncus, the large anellus without any process, and the club-shaped right valva; in the female genitalia, a pair of curved horn-shaped signa combined with a cestum present in the posterior part of the ductus bursae are two characters that can be easily distinguished from other species.

Host plant. Abdomen: surface dark brown, basal dorsum covered with a patch of light yellow to brown scales; a pair of pale brown tufts present at caudal end. Forewing: Moderately elongate and lanceolate in shape; ground color dark brown; median yellow fascia broad, running across basal 1/8 to slightly over half of forewing, nearly rectangular; fringes color similar to ground color. Hindwing: Ground color and fringes color dark brown; vannal tuft a bundle of slender blonde hairs present along base of vein 2A.

Female (Figs. 4, 7): Antennal length 3.2 – 3.9 mm (n = 7), forewing length 4.7 – 5.3 mm (n = 7). Most characters are similar to the males, except for the broader basal dark brown patch on the forewing, and the vannal tuft presented along base of vein 2A of the hindwing, which is a bundle of long dark grey hairs.

Male genitalia (Figs. 10, 11): Brachia of uncus slender, sinuate toward apex; tegumen broad; vinculum bandshaped, somewhat broad medially, concaved at medial dorsum; two valvae minute, small protrusions basally, slightly setose; valvellae asymmetric, left valvella broad basally, contracted in middle third, distal third enlarged with a truncated apex, right valvella broad basal half, slightly tapering toward apex at distal half, apex also truncated; anellus slender, with a triangular process distally, scarcely setose; aedeagus stout, straight and short, two forms of cornuti present, one with rod-liked and wrinkled sclerites, the one with a short and stout spine basally, rows of spines on distal half, longer toward distal end.

Female genitalia (Figs. 16, 17): Length of apophyses anteriores about 3/5 length of apophyses posteriores; seventh sternite with a broad pocket near sterigma with many bristles inside; sterigma sclerotized; ductus bursae with an accessory bursae emitted from posterior 1/4; corpus bursae oval, with a pair of ridged signa slightly different in size.

Diagnosis. The wing pattern of the new species is similar to that of M. terniprocessa Li, 2023, but they can be distinguished by the shape of the yellow fascia of M. basilutea sp. nov. nearly rectangular whereas that of M. terniprocessa trapezoidal, and the proportion of yellow fascia on the entire forewing of M. basilutea sp. nov. just over half while that of M. terniprocessa about 1/3. In the male genitalia, this new species can be easily identified by its distinctly minute valvae and the triangular process of the anellus. In the female genitalia, it can be recognized by its ridge-like signa.

Etymology. The name is a combination of two Latin words “ basi ” and “ lutea ”, referring to its basal yellow patch on the dorsal abdomen in the male adult.

Distribution.
