03A887E87262FFDFFF6C6606FA675EDE.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. Termitoquedius differs from other Neotropical genera of Philonthina by the following combination of characters: head and pronotum with spine-like setae (Figs. 1 a, h, 2 a, b); head cordiform (Figs. 1 a, h, 2 a, b), without infraorbital ridge; pronotum broadened posteriorly, discal area strongly convex with lateral areas flattened (Figs. 1 a, h, 2 a, b); basal portion of male sternite 9 symmetrical (Fig. 3 c) or slightly asymmetrical (Fig. 3 j); female genitalia with accessory sclerite (Figs. 3 g, l, m).	en	Rodríguez-Melgarejo, Maryzender, Marvaldi, Adriana E., Chani-Posse, Mariana (2026): Myrmecophily in focus: taxonomy and systematics of Termitoquedius Bernhauer (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae: Staphylinini) with descriptions of two new species. 03A887E87262FFDFFF6C6606FA675EDE.taxon	discussion	Comparison. The general body shape of Termitoquedius resembles that of Proxenobius. Both share similarity in the position of the antennal insertions situated on the anterior margin of the frontoclypeus, the head and pronotum with a dull appearance due to dense punctate microsculpture, and irregular (not arranged in rows) setiferous punctation on the pronotal disc. However, Termitoquedius differs from Proxenobius in having the head cordiform (rectangular in Proxenobius), the infraorbital ridge absent (present in Proxenobius), the pronotum broadened posteriorly (with lateral sides parallel in Proxenobius), and the female genitalia bearing a horseshoe-shaped accessory sclerite (absent in Proxenobius).	en	Rodríguez-Melgarejo, Maryzender, Marvaldi, Adriana E., Chani-Posse, Mariana (2026): Myrmecophily in focus: taxonomy and systematics of Termitoquedius Bernhauer (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae: Staphylinini) with descriptions of two new species. 03A887E87262FFDFFF6C6606FA675EDE.taxon	biology_ecology	Bionomics. Species of the genus Termitoquedius are symbionts of the army ants (Eciton spp.). Specimens collected from nests and foraging columns of E. quadriglume (Haliday) (Borgmeier 1959: 4; Figs. 1 e – f). Additional host records, based on collection label data accompanying the examined specimens, include E. burchellii (Westwood), E. hamatum (Fabricius), E. mexicanum Roger, E. vagans (Olivier), and E. lucanoides Emery.	en	Rodríguez-Melgarejo, Maryzender, Marvaldi, Adriana E., Chani-Posse, Mariana (2026): Myrmecophily in focus: taxonomy and systematics of Termitoquedius Bernhauer (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae: Staphylinini) with descriptions of two new species. 03A887E87262FFDFFF6C6606FA675EDE.taxon	distribution	Geographic distribution. The known distribution of Termitoquedius is significantly expanded herein. Previously recorded only from the highlands of southeastern Brazil, the genus is now confirmed to occur along the Andes of Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, as well as in Colombia (Fig. 4). The total known distribution therefore encompasses Napo (Boreal Brazilian dominion), Magdalena (Pacific dominion), Ucayali and Rondônia (South Brazilian dominion), Araucaria Forest, Atlantic Forest, and Paraná Forest (Paraná dominion) biogeographic provinces (sensu Morrone et al. 2022). Regarding the new country records, the Ecuadorian records are based on specimens housed at the FMNH (identified by A. F. Newton, pers. comm.), whilst the Colombian record is based on material from the IAVH, which was examined by the last author. These records, although the Ecuadorian material was not examined first-hand, represent a significant northward and westward extension of the known generic range.	en	Rodríguez-Melgarejo, Maryzender, Marvaldi, Adriana E., Chani-Posse, Mariana (2026): Myrmecophily in focus: taxonomy and systematics of Termitoquedius Bernhauer (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae: Staphylinini) with descriptions of two new species. 03A887E87262FFDFFF6C6606FA675EDE.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Based on its broad, flattened habitus resembling Quedius, Termitoquedius was originally placed in the subtribe Quediina (Bernhauer 1912). Subsequently, Chatzimanolis et al. (2010) removed the genus from Quediina, treating it as incertae sedis within Staphylinini. Herein, we transfer Termitoquedius to the subtribe Philonthina. This placement is consistent with recent phylogenetic evidence (Chani-Posse et al. 2018 a; Ramírez-Salamanca et al. 2024), which places the genus within the Neotropical lineage of Philonthina, revealing a close relationship to other symbiotic taxa such as the myrmecophilous genus Proxenobius and the termitophilous genus Pridonius.	en	Rodríguez-Melgarejo, Maryzender, Marvaldi, Adriana E., Chani-Posse, Mariana (2026): Myrmecophily in focus: taxonomy and systematics of Termitoquedius Bernhauer (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae: Staphylinini) with descriptions of two new species. In the original description of Termitoquedius iheringi, Bernhauer (1912: 46) did not specify the number of specimens examined, nor did he designate a holotype. The two specimens listed above are consistent with the original description and are therefore considered as syntypes. To ensure nomenclatural stability, the specimen in the best condition (FMNHINS 3048950) is hereby designated as the lectotype. It is consistent with the original description, type locality, and collection date provided by Bernhauer (1912: 46).	en	Rodríguez-Melgarejo, Maryzender, Marvaldi, Adriana E., Chani-Posse, Mariana (2026): Myrmecophily in focus: taxonomy and systematics of Termitoquedius Bernhauer (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae: Staphylinini) with descriptions of two new species.
