C. He, Y. W Zhao & Y. Zhang 2025

Clonostachys xishuangbannaensis S.C. He, Y.W Zhao & Y. Zhang, sp. nov. Fig. 2

Index Fungorum number: IF904361

Etymology:— The species epithet “xishuangbannaensis ” refers to the place Xishuangbanna where the holotype was collected.

Holotype:— HKAS 133177

Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Colonies on WA, solitary, white at apex, raised, sparse. Conidiophores mononematous, penicillate, erect, straight or flexuous, unbranched when immature, branched when mature, smooth, thin-walled, septate, hyaline, terminal branches developing into phialides, 126–186 × 3.2–3.8 μm (x = 150 × 3.4 μm, n = 20). Phialides monophialidic, terminal, flask-shaped or cylindrical, aseptate, hyaline, smooth, thin-walled, guttulate, 13.7–17.9 × 2.2–3.2 μm (x = 16 × 2.8 μm, n = 20). Conidia aseptate, solitary, acrogenous, simple, ellipsoidal to oblong with obtuse ends, smooth, thin-walled, hyaline, 7.5–8.2 × 3.5–4.7 μm (x = 8.0 × 4.0 μm, n = 30). Sexual morph: Not observed.

Culture characteristics: — Colonies on PDA reaching 2.5–3 cm after 15 days of incubation at 25 ° C, white to pale yellow, medium sparse, raised, smooth, lobate, velvety, ciliate, no pigment produced.

Distribution: — Xishuangbanna City, Yunnan Province, China.

Material examined: — CHINA. Yunnan Province: Xishuangbanna City, (21°87’N, 101°32′E, 640m), on the lower part of leaves of Ageratina adenophora, 11 September 2022, collected by Shu-Cheng He, HSC398 (holotype KUN-HKAS 133177; ex-type living culture KUNCC24-18526) .

Notes: — In the phylogenetic analysis, Clonostachys xishuangbannaensis clustered as sister to C. wenpingii (Luo & Zhuang 2014) (100% MLBS /1.00 BPP, Fig. 1). Morphologically, C. xishuangbannaensis shares similar characteristics with C. wenpingii in the shape of conidiophores(mononematous, penicillate, erect), flask-shaped or cylindrical, aseptate, hyaline phialides and conidia that are acrogenous, ellipsoidal or oblong with obtuse ends and hyaline (Luo & Zhuang 2014). However, C. xishuangbannaensis differs from C. wenpingii in having bigger conidia (8.0 × 4.0 μm vs 5.6 × 2.3 μm) and it also differed from C. wenpingii by 1.3% ITS and by 0.3 % 28 S differences in the nucleotides. Both C. xishuangbannaensis and C. wenpingii were collected in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, but C. xishuangbannaensis is endophytic on Ageratina adenophora while C. wenpingii is saprophytic on an unknown host (Luo & Zhuang 2014). Therefore, we propose the identification of our specimen as a new species, C. xishuangbannaensis .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03AA8798FFDCFFDC1C99FA00FB41FEAF	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
