Idrobo 1611 (holotype: COL568944!; isotypes: COL570140!) .

Diagnosis: —This new species is similar to Passiflora alnifolia, P. chelidonea and P. tribolophylla, from which it differs by the dark reddish colour and structure of the flower, the relative short length (vs. subequal lenght) and red (vs. white-pink) coloration of the coronal structure, the glabrous vegetative indument (vs. pubescent), and the distinctly 2-lobed shape (vs. obscurely 3-lobed) of the leaf.

Description: — Plant a tendrillate vine, with branches 2–4 m long, pubescent throughout, with the exception of the floral parts. Stems wiry, striate or subterete, pubescent throughout, especially on the younger stems, green. Tendrils green to reddish-brown, well-developed. Stipules setaceous ornarrow lanceolate, 4–7 × 0.8–1 mm, persistent, black or very dark brown, pubescent. Internodal distance 4–10 (–12) cm. Petioles caniculate for the upper 3/4 th, 1.1–1.8 cm long, reddish or reddish-green, eglandular, pubescent. Leaf blade two-lobed or obscurely three-lobed, lateral lobes noticeably longer with intermediate lobe reduced to a mucro or absent completely, 4.6–7.2 × 3.1–4.5 cm, length central vein 3.6–5.1 cm, base rounded to truncate, lateral lobes prominent, triangular-ovate or lanceolate in shape, acute or acuminate at the apex, intermediate lobe obsolete, truncate or deltoid if present, emarginate-mucronate if absent, glabrous or glabrescent above, softly pubescent or tomentose beneath, ocellated with 7–12 pale yellow ocelli between the lateral veins, margin entire, smooth. Inflorescence single or in pairs, axillary; petioles 2.2–3.6 cm, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, green; bracts setaceous, obsolete, often deciduous, 1.5–2.2 mm long if present, reddish. Flower showy, white with purple-red and yellow, small, 2.4–3.2 cm in diameter. Hypanthium disk-shaped, 10–12 mm wide, greenish-red without, glabrous; sepals obovate or oblong, 12–14 × 7–8 mm, rounded at apex, streaky white internally, red or reddish-pink externally, ecorniculate, glabrous on both sides; petals much shorter than sepals, narrowly oblong or ovate, 8–10 × 5–6 mm, sharply rounded at apex, sometimes slightly praemorse, white, thinly membranous. Corona arranged in 2 series, the outer series the most pronounced, wine-red with yellow; the outer series filiform, 6–8 mm long, moderately outfacing, dark purple in lower third, yellow in upper third, with 1–2 purplish bands in middle third; the inner series filamentose, erect, 2.5–3.0 mm long, wine-red or purple, with greyish, slightly dilated tip; operculum plicate, membranous, folded inwards towards the androgynophore, 1–2 mm long, serrate at margin, deep wine-red, purple at apex. Limen a raised plateau, dark purple or wine-red, glossy. Androgynophore deep wine-red throughout 9–11 mm tall; stamen wine-red; pollen yellow. Ovary densely hirsute, globular, 2 × 2.5 mm, deep pink or wine-red with silverish hairs; styles wine-red, 3–4 mm, stigmas green. Fruit a berry, ovoid or ellipsoid, 25 × 18 mm, softly tomentose or pubescent, turning black at maturity.

Phenology: —This species has been observed with flowers in February, April and June, carrying fruits from March and expected lasting into June–July. This corresponds with the Colombian wet-season.

Distribution and habitat: — Passiflora mamapachae is restricted to the east-facing slopes of the eastern Andes (Cordillera Oriental) of Boyacá, Colombia. Two of the unvouchered collections were found within the Laguna El Ramo regional park, which features a somewhat poorly administered reserve connecting a private forest protectorate (Reserva El Secreto) with the Páramo Mamapacha Zetaquira. Here it was found in the premontane cloud forest and subparamó at elevations between 2,200 and 2,350 meters of elevation. P. mamapachae is a small species that was seen growing over low shrub and roadside vegetation or trailing down grassy slopes near forest clearings and riverbanks.

Etymology: —This species is named after the Páramo Mamapacha Zetaquira, the region of its most proliferous distribution as well as the name of the Goddess of Nature to the local people.

Conservation notes: — Passiflora mamapachae is known only from just five collections, three of which recorded from herbarium. Plotting those georeferenced points in GeoCat software gives a total Area of Occupancy (AOO) of about 24 km 2 and an Extent of Occurrence of 450 km 2, scaling P. mamapachae EN (Endangered) . Its restricted endemic distribution to the fertile eastern slopes of the Colombian Cordillera Oriental poses a potential risk for its longterm conservation. Combined with its relatively low number of citings, indicating a low abundance within its habitat, the GeoCat assessment agrees with the IUCN criteria B1ab(i, iii) and B2a(ii) for this given category (IUCN 2023). The area of its native habitat is not presently preserved or protected as a biological reserve, however. Small scale tourism and natural attractions such as waterfalls and hiking trails are present, which would support the preservation of the natural serenity.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03A087E7FFA27F01FF4C78E5904A831E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
