Leaves sometimes with significantly reduced axillary fascicles of undeveloped leaves; petiole 1.7 – 12 mm long, with similar indument as in the stem; leaf blade deltoid, ovate-elliptic to orbicular, 7.7 – 16 × 5 – 12.3 mm, membranous, apex obtuse to slightly acute, base truncate to shortly cuneate, margin tiny serrate and ciliate, both surfaces with similar indumentum of the stem but the hairs shorter and sparse, sparsely covered with tiny glandular dots below, veins visible but not elevated. Inflorescences in cymules mostly rising from the second or third pair of leaves, each 3 – 5 (– 8) - flowered; peduncle 0.2 – 0.4 mm long. Floral bract linear, 1.6 – 2.9 mm long, with the indumentum like the stem. Pedicel 1.8 – 3.7 mm long, with the indumentum like the stem; calyx actinomorphic (not gibbous at base), tube 2.8 – 4 × 1.3 – 1.8 mm, only slightly widened in fruit, an internal ring of hairs dense, placed 0.5 – 1 mm below junction of calyx lips; lips slightly differentiated, upper glabrous inside, 1 – 1.7 mm long, lobes patent, triangular-subulate, connate by basal 0.5 – 0.8 mm; lower lip 1.3 – 1.9 mm long, lobes free, subulate; lobes of both lips ciliate, not connivent and occluding calyx tube in fruit. Corolla infundibuliform, gradually dilated from the middle of the tube, light violet, whitish to the margin of the lips and throat, with a yellow stain at the middle of ventral throat close to the lower lip, and frontally bordered by a line of darker violet, externally hispidulous towards dorsal and ventral portion of the upper and lower lips, respectively, with a couple of decurrent tufts of hairs at the throat aligned with the sinuses of the lateral lobes of the lower lip, tube 4.3 – 5.6 × 1.3 – 2.2 mm, upper lip 1.4 – 2.1 mm long, shallowly emarginate at apex, lower lip 2 – 3 × 2 – 2.5 mm, trilobed. 03984644CD3D2B47FC90FDD2FEB8AB0D.taxon	distribution	Distribution, habitat, and ecology: — Hedeoma salomeae is known exclusively from the northern portion of Sierra de Gomas, also known as Sierra de Bustamante, in Nuevo León (Fig. 3). Sierra de Gomas is one of the northern sky islands of Sierra Madre Oriental province. However, depending on the delimitation proposal, it might also be considered part of either the Chihuahuan Desert or the Tamaulipas [Northwest Coastal Plain] Province (Rzedowski 1978, Cervantes-Zamora et al. 1990, Morrone et al. 2017, Villaseñor & Ortiz 2022, Sandoval-Mata et al. 2024). It grows in a couple of contiguous ravines at the foothills of the mountain range, just southwest of the town of Bustamante, between 500 – 700 m elevation in a primarily limestone soil. It inhabits submontane scrubland, a subtype within xerophilous scrubland (Rzedowski 1966), with several shared elements with tropical deciduous forest (Rzedowski 1978). Hedeoma salomeae shares habitat with Agave asperrima Jacobi (1864: 561), Aloysia macrostahchya (Torrey 1859: 127) Moldenke (1934: 95), Bauhinia macranthera Benth. ex Hemsley (1880: 49), Brahea dulcis (Kunth 1815: 300) Martius (1838: 244), Colubrina greggii Watson (1882: 336), Crataegus greggiana Eggleston (1909: 511), Delphinium madrense Watson (1890: 141), Dermatophyllum secundiflorum (Ortega 1798: 61) Gandhi & Reveal (2011: 2), Euphorbia nesomii Mayfield (2013: 639), Hesperaloe funifera (Koch 1862: 132) Trelease (1902: 36), Justicia pilosella (Nees 1847: 412) Hilsenbeck (1990: 225), Karwinskia humboldtiana (Schultes 1819: 295) Zuccarini (1832: 353), Leucophyllum frutescens (Berlandier 1832: 4) Johnston (1924: 89), Nahuatlea hypoleuca (Candolle 1838: 23) V. (2017: 119), Opuntia engelmannii Engelmann (1850: 207), Pistacia mexicana Kunth (1824: 22), Quercus gravesii Sudworth (1927: 86), Q. laceyi Small (1901: 358), Ratibida coahuilensis Turner (1988: 35), Scutellaria monterreyana Turner (1994 b: 368), and Yucca linearifolia Clary (1995: 394). It flowers and fruits from March to May. Conservation status: — The conservation status of the new species should be considered as Data Deficient (DD) according to IUCN (2024) and further investigation on this species is required for its proper assessment.	en	González-Gallegos, Jesús Guadalupe, Velázquez-Ríos, Perla, Martínez-Guerra, Marceloalí (2025): Hedeoma salomeae (Lamiaceae), a new species from Nuevo León, Mexico. 03984644CD3D2B47FC90FDD2FEB8AB0D.taxon	etymology	Etymology: — The specific epithet salomeae is dedicated to the third author’s paternal grandmother, Margarita Salomé Contreras, as a recognition of her love, dedication, and perseverance toward the native plants of Bustamante, Nuevo León, where she grew up and used to sell native plants at her Vivero Salomé, her organic nursery. She inspired and encouraged her grandson’s interest in plants from an early age, which led him to pursue a degree in biology. Additional specimen examined: — MEXICO.
