The genus is characterized by the following combination of character states: eyes very large with inner margins parallel; antennae very short, composed of 7 antennomeres, looking like built of two parts, with scape as large as remaining antennomeres combined; mesoventrite fused with the metaventrite with suture invisible; tibiae very elongate, slender; tarsi with 3 simple tarsomeres.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/039587D3CF061669FF1CC097FD53F977	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Holotype: THAILAND: NAKHON NAYOK: male ♂, Hin Tung, Hin Tung, Mueang Nakhon Nayok District (alt. 741–759 m), 6.vii.2024, R. Seki & T. Hashizume leg. (KUM) (right hind leg refrigerated in 99% ethanol for DNA analysis).

Diagnosis. The new species resembles L. borneensis Miyatake more closely in terms of overall appearance and coloration. However, the completely black head, shorter and narrower reddish maculae on the elytra, ventrites of the thorax at least medially reddish brown, and abdominal ventrites 1–3 coarsely punctured, separate L. khaoyaiensis sp. nov. from L. borneensis which has the head yellow, the reddish maculae on the elytra are longer, reaching almost elytral apices and wider, reaching nearly lateral elytral edges, ventrites of the thorax are black and abdominal ventrite 1 coarsely punctured. And from L. hainanensis Miyatake, L. khaoyaiensis sp. nov. can easily be separated by having smaller body, the elytra covered with sparsely scattered small punctations and lacking rows of coarse punctures near suture, the pronotum mostly black with only lateral sides reddish-brown, and each elytron covered with differently shaped and placed reddish-brown macula.

Description (male holotype). TL = 1.35 mm; TW = 1.12 mm; TH = 0.61 mm; TL/TW = 1.20; PL/PW = 0.40; EL/EW = 1.00; HW/PW = 0.68; PW/EW = 0.67.

Body small, round-oval, strongly convex, densely covered with suberect, long, rather dense and mostly grey setae. Dorsal surfaces black with reddish-brown lateral sides of the pronotum (except for edges) and longitudinal macula on each elytron. Antennae, mouthparts, legs and ventrites of thorax reddish brown; tarsi yellowish brown except for apical half of terminal tarsomere which is black.

Head moderately large, about 0.68 times as wide as pronotum; interocular distance about 0.45 times as wide as head width. Pronotum approximately 2.5 times as wide as long; anterior angles produced, sides narrowed anteriorly, and basal margin produced medially into lobe; size of punctures similar to those on head. Elytra covered with a pair of elongate, weakly oblique reddish-brown maculae extending from basal fourth to near apex, distant from suture and margins; irregularly punctate with dense, moderately coarse and rather shallow punctations.

Abdomen (Fig. 4) with 5 ventrites; ventrites 1 and 5 long, subequal in length, each longer than 2–4 combined; ventrites 1–2 and 3–4 laterally coarsely and moderately densely punctured, ventrite 5 finely and rather sparsely punctured; posterior margin of ventrite 5 narrowly and deeply emarginate; postcoxal lines of ventrite 1 complete, somewhat angulate postero-laterally, deep, reaching posterior third of ventrite’s length below coxae, and running parallel lateral margins of ventrite; sternite VIII (Fig. 6) with lateral margins elongate and projecting anteriorly, posterior margin excised medially, surface covered with four pairs of oblique lines antero-laterally; tergite VIII (Fig. 5) widely rounded apically.

Male terminalia and genitalia. Male genital segment (Fig. 7) U-shaped, with sternite IX very narrow belt and tergite X rounded apically; apodeme of sternite IX long, expanded at its base. Penis (Fig. 8) elongate, almost straight; penis capsule reduced with weakly developed inner arm; tegmen (Figs 9, 10) with penis guide in lateral view curved as elongated S-shape, apex directed backwards, pointed; penis guide in inner view (Fig. 10) gradually widened from base to near half length, then abruptly tapering towards apex, with apical 1/4 widened with a large triangular notch at apex; parameres (Figs 9, 10) narrow and short, approximately 3/5 as long as penis guide, with single long seta at apex; tegminal strut (Fig. 11) in form of inverted ‘Y’, long.

Female genitalia. Not studied.

Biology. Only a single specimen of this species was found among the numerous Sticholotidini on the trunk of Cassia fistula L. ( Fabaceae).

Distribution. Thailand (Khao Yai National Park).

Etymology. The scientific name of the species, " khaoyaiensis " is derived from the name of the place where the holotype was collected, Khao Yai National Park, Thailand.

Remarks. Unfortunately, the male holotype of L. borneensis, housed at the Ehime University Museum, could not be located (likely missing) and was therefore unavailable for study. However, during the description of the new species, we consulted Miyatake’s (1994) original descriptions and accompanying illustrations of the tribe, genus, and species. Moreover, Wang & Chen (2022) provided photographs of the female holotype of L. hainanensis and its ovipositor, which we used for comparison. Miyatake (1994) unfortunately did not provide illustrations of the genitalia of his described species. Based on the available comparative data, the new species can be confidently distinguished from both previously described species (see Diagnosis of L. khaoyaiensis).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/039587D3CF06166BFF1CC3C2FBDEFBBD	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
