Pulchricranae gen. nov. is similar to Philippines genera Bacuita Strand, 1932 and Binaluacris C. Willemse, 1932, especially to subgenus Paramaga C. Willemse, 1933 of latter genus (Strand, 1932, Willemse, 1932, 1933, 1956, 1957; Willemse, 1978). The females of new genus differ from Bacuita (males unknown) by fastigium of vertex strongly short and broad; tegmen broader, with apex rounded; hind femur surpassing the apex of abdomen; subgenital plate with apex nearly truncate (in Bacuita, fastigium of vertex much longer; tegmen much narrower, with apex obliquely truncate; hind femur reaching the apex of abdomen; subgenital plate with triangular apex). New genus differs from subgenus Paramaga by fastigium of vertex with rounded margins in male; tegmina shorter and slightly broader; prosternal spine of male with broadly rounded apex; mesosternal lobe broader than long; male cerci conical, much narrower near apical part (in Paramaga, fastigium of vertex with parallel margins in male; tegmina slightly longer and narrower; prosternal spine of male with concavely excision in middle; mesosternal lobe about as long as broad; male cerci broad, obliquely excised near the apex).

Species included. Type species only.

Etymology. The genus name is derived from Latin adjective word “pulchra” meaning “beautiful” and generic name Cranae for the similar in shape with this genus group. Gender feminine.

Remark. This genus is placed in the subfamily Hemiacridinae because the basal and apical valves of penis divided, without sclerotized flexure between them, and incorporated in the tribe Cranaeini (sensu Storozhenko, 2020) based on external morphology and male genitalia.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/039487D1FFEBFFE45D804F10FC978813	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
