Antennule 7-segmented in male and in female. Segments 5 to 7 of males A1 forming a functional unit for clasping the female, in grasping position. P2 strongly sexually dimorphic, transformed into a clasping organ in the male by the hypertrophy of exp-1 and 2; exp-1 with a strong blade-shape spinule on the inner margin; exp-2 and 3 bent inwards; exp-3 with only two setae; enp reduced into a short seta. Female the P2 enp reduced into an unarmed and short glossiform element. Basis of male P3 smooth and rectangular, longer than its width; basis with a setiform enp; exp-1 rectangular and unornamented; apophysis shorter than exp-1 and with a rounded edge with a small spine on its tip; thumb longer than apophysis, robust, curved outwards and with a distal hyaline membrane. Female P3 enp is a reduced seta. Male P4 enp with a proximal pointed ingrowth and a distal fused seta longer than exp-1. Female P4 enp is spiniform, ornamented on both inner and outer margins of its distal half, longer than exp-1, reaching the half of exp-2. P5 short in male and female, acuminate on the inner distal margin, with a stronger process in the male, the distal rim of which not reaching beyond the middle of the next Ur in the male or the middle of the genital double-somite in the female, with 3 outer setae (long basal seta and two small exopodal setae) inserted distally, the middle seta the shortest.

Etymology: The generic name combines the Greek nouns άγκιστρο (ágkistro, hook), πόδι (podi, feet), and καρίς (karís, shrimp); gender is feminine.

Putative autapomorphies for the genus: Male A1 7-segmented. Male P2 transformed into a grasping organ with the corresponding transformations observed in the exopods and enp. Female P2 and P3 enp reduced; in P2 the enp is glossiform and much shorter than exp-1, short and spiniform in P3; female P4 reaching past the middle of exp-2. Male P3 exp-1 short and rectangular, apophysis shorter than exp-1 and with distal rounded edge armed with small spine; thumb robust, longer than apophysis, curved outwards, with distal hyaline margin. Male P4 enp with proximal acuminate ingrowth and long distal fused seta.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03869C18FFDB9020D9C5FE42FCF3F9E3	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
