03F8AF76FFF80C74649D4F04411F4A51.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Miyatake (1961 b) originally described C. formosana based on single female specimen from Taiwan Island without precise locality. Yang & Wu (1972) firstly described and illustrated the male genitalia of C. formosana based on two specimens from Taiwan Island. The descriptions and illustrations of male features of C. formosana were further given by Ren et al. (2009) and Wang & Chen (2022), however, those descriptions and illustrations were based on single male specimen from Jiangxi Prov., and the species is not the ‘ true’ C. formosana. After examining the male specimens from Taiwan Island and compared them with the specimens from Chinese mainland and illustrations by Yang & Wu (1972), we found that the specimens from Taiwan are constant with some specimens from Guangdong: They are characterized by robust and digitiform left paramere, comparatively blunt and short penis guide (Fig. 6 a, b, h, j) and rectangular outer arm of penis capsule (Fig. 1 o).	en	Zhu, Zi-Hao, Hu, Yu-Xia, Wang, Xing-Min (2026): Taxonomic review of the little-known genus Catanella Miyatake, 1961 (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), with nomenclatural notes of four species of the tribe Serangiini from China. 03F8AF76FFFE0C77649D4E2841954CC5.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Xiao (1992) originally described this species having 9 - segmented antenna with 4 - segmented tarsi and thus placed it into genus Serangium, but Wang et al. (2011) transferred it to Catanella because of its type materials having 8 - segmented antenna and 3 - segmented tarsi which is also well-supported by our illustrations (Figs 2 g, 2 i – k). Catanella bacula from Anhui has rather acute penis guide (Fig. 6 f) comparing with its type material, but characteristics (terminal maxillary palpomere elongate; short and triangular left paramere, penis capsule with inner and outer arm inconspicuous and penis apex hook-like) are constant among the specimens we examined. However, its identity likely requires clarification based on both morphological and molecular evidence.	en	Zhu, Zi-Hao, Hu, Yu-Xia, Wang, Xing-Min (2026): Taxonomic review of the little-known genus Catanella Miyatake, 1961 (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), with nomenclatural notes of four species of the tribe Serangiini from China. 03F8AF76FFFD0C7D649D489C47AC4C8C.taxon	biology_ecology	Biology. The new species dwell in the evergreen broad-leaved forest of Southern China (Figs. 5 a, 7). They are predators of whiteflies and were collected on Bougainvillea spectabilis, Falcataria sp. and banyan by sweeping net (Fig. 5 g) or hand picking. Both adults and larvae were observed feeding on whiteflies’ nymphs (Fig. 5 c – f, i); the female will lay its eggs horizontally on the dorsal surface or lateral margins of leaves, the eggs are mostly separate, but occasionally two are clustered together (Fig. 5 b).	en	Zhu, Zi-Hao, Hu, Yu-Xia, Wang, Xing-Min (2026): Taxonomic review of the little-known genus Catanella Miyatake, 1961 (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), with nomenclatural notes of four species of the tribe Serangiini from China. Specimens of C. acuta from Guangdong Prov. having more slender parameres in inner view (Fig. 6 d) than those from Jiangxi (Fig. 6 e) and Yunnan Prov. 03F8AF76FFFD0C7D649D489C47AC4C8C.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The immature stages of Catanella are herein described and illustrated for the first time. Kamiya (1965) recorded the larvae of Serangium japonicum Chapin, 1940. Sasaji (1968) later recorded those of both Serangium japonicum and Serangium punctum Miyatake, 1963. Huang et al. (2024) described Serangium xinpingense Huang & Wang, 2024 with additional descriptions of its immature stages, while Poorani (2024) further expanded the knowledge of the immature stages of Serangium chapini (Kapur, 1956) and Serangium parcesetosum Sicard, 1929. Comparing with the larvae of Serangium (Kamiya 1965: fig. 7 C; Sasaji 1968: fig. 1 B; Huang et al. 2024: figs 1 d, 1 e, 5 a, 5 b; Poorani 2024: figs 6 a – d, 12 a, 12 b, 13 a, 13 b), Catanella acuta bears more compacted body (Figs 4 a – c, 5 c – f). Maxilla and labium of larvae in Serangium are poorly studied in the past, comparing with S. xinpingense: head capule is nearly rounded in C. acuta (Fig. 4 f) but subovoid in S. xinpingense (Huang et al. 2024: fig. 5 d); maxillary palp and labial palpi distinctly shortened in C. acuta (Fig. 4 f) but elongate and slender in S. xinpingense (Huang et al. 2024: fig. 5 i, j). Ren et al. (2009) illustrated Catanella formosana based on a male Catanella specimen from Jiangxi Province. The illustration of C. formosana was subsequently modified from Ren et al. (2009) by Wang & Chen (2022). However, the identity of Catanella formosana in both Ren et al. (2009) and Wang & Chen (2022) is herein determined to represent C. acuta sp. nov. The male specimen from Jiangxi Province is therefore designated as a paratype of Catanella acuta sp. nov. in the present study.	en	Zhu, Zi-Hao, Hu, Yu-Xia, Wang, Xing-Min (2026): Taxonomic review of the little-known genus Catanella Miyatake, 1961 (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), with nomenclatural notes of four species of the tribe Serangiini from China.
