03E887818F63B80FFF31FAEC1A5AFCE2.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. The new species is morphologically similar to T. divulsa (Holloway 2005: fig. 17 in plate 19; figs. 512, 522), but can be easily distinguished from the latter by the forewings with a wider black band from middle of discal cell to inner margin; the terminal of sclerotized costal section dentate, with a small pointed protrusion; female genitalia with a shorter ductus bursae.	en	Qi, Wen, Wang, Min, Wang, Houshuai (2026): A new species of the genus Tephriopis Hampson, 1926 (Lepidoptera, Erebidae) from China. 03E887818F63B80FFF31FAEC1A5AFCE2.taxon	description	Description. Adult (Figs. 1 – 4, 10). Forewing length 15 – 16 mm. Head, thorax, abdomen, and antennae cinereous. Antennae serrate in males, filiform in females. Labial palpi long and upturned, outer sides of the first and second segments fuscous, inner sides pallidus, the third segment cinereous. Forewings cinereous ground color, with a wide black oblique or slightly curved band extending from the middle of the discal cell to the inner margin, and with two large irregular black patches at the posterior half; an indistinct wavy black line located between the two patches and a black dot present in discal cell; submarginal area pallidus; outer margin with a row of crescent-shaped black spots. Hindwings griseous at the basal one third, fuscous at the distal two thirds, with a row of crescent-shaped black spots. Legs cinereous; hind tibiae with two pairs of spurs. Forewing venation with two radial cells about the posterior one third of costal margin; R 1 to R 5 arising from the radial cell, R 3 and R 4 long stalked; M 1 arising from the upper angle of the discal cell, M 2, M 3, CuA 1 and CuA 2 forming a quadrifid vein. Hinding venation with Sc + R 1 connected with the costa of discal cell at basal part; Rs and M 1 arising from the upper angle of discal cell; M 2 branching from near the lower part of discal cell; M 3 and CuA 1 extremely short-stalked; CuA 1 and CuA 2 almost parallel. Male genitalia (Figs. 5 – 8). Uncus long, finger-like, with a pair of slender socii laterally. Tegumen broad. Vinculum heavily sclerotized. Valvae with a strongly sclerotized ridge at the overlapping part of costal and saccular sections; costal section highly sclerotized, dentate near the terminal which appears a small pointed protrusion; sacculus section membranous with numerous setae, obtuse apically. Juxta plate-like. Saccus small. Aedeagus stout in basal half, relatively slender in distal half, vesica inflated basally, finger-like terminally, densely covered with spinules. Female genitalia (Fig. 9). Anal Papillae nearly rectangular, covered with slender setae. Apophyses anteriores almost as long as apophyses posteriores. Ostium large, with strongly sclerotized lateral margins. Ductus bursae relatively short, with strong sclerotization. Corpus bursae large, scobinate, constricted centrally, without signum.	en	Qi, Wen, Wang, Min, Wang, Houshuai (2026): A new species of the genus Tephriopis Hampson, 1926 (Lepidoptera, Erebidae) from China. 03E887818F63B80FFF31FAEC1A5AFCE2.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The type species of the monotypic genus Tephriopis, T. divulsa, was firstly described from Sylhet and originally placed in Athyrma Hübner by Walker (1865). Holloway (2005) diagnosed the morphological characters of T. divulsa with illustrations of its adults, male and female genitalia from Borneo, and treated Capnodes arabescalis Snellen, 1880 from Celebes as its synonym, he also noted the geographical range, habitat preference, morphological and biological information of the immature stages of this species. Jia & Yu (2018) identified a male Tephriopis specimen as T. divulsa from Wutongshan National Park, South China, but this specimen is actually T. paradivulsa sp. nov. judging from their illustrations of the wing patterns and male genital structure.	en	Qi, Wen, Wang, Min, Wang, Houshuai (2026): A new species of the genus Tephriopis Hampson, 1926 (Lepidoptera, Erebidae) from China.
