Stem erect, 15 – 70 cm tall, with sterile shoots, woolly with straight hairs at base, branching above, 2 – 5 mm ⌀ at base; lower stem sparsely simple and glandular hairy; middle and upper parts of stem glabrous. Saline habitats are special areas characterized by some salt-bearing plants (Fig. 7). Inula erzurumica is one of such plants, growing together with Atriplex laevis C. A. Mey., Atriplex lasiantha Boiss., Centaurea coronopifolia Lam., Cephalaria aristata K. Koch, Dianthus tabrisianus Bien. ex Boiss., Elymus elongatus subsp. turcicus (P. E. McGuire) Melderis, Juncus articulatus L., Lepidium caespitosum Desv., Lepidium cartilagineum Thell., Plantago maritima L. and Scorzonera parviflora Jacq.
