Holotype: ♂, Malaysia: Perak, Belum, Titiwangsa (collected from a light trap). 4.IV.2015, L. F. Cheong leg.

Description. Male. Body oblong-oval, strongly convex posteriorly, brilliant. Colour blackish brown; head, pronotum and scutellum metallic light blue; elytra metallic bluish purple (under fluorescent light, it appears metallic bluish purple, whereas under the camera flash it shows a more bluish colouration), strongly brilliant each abdominal ventrite with a pair of light blue spots on both sides; antennae infuscate; femora brownish yellow except knees; pro-and mesotibia brownish yellow in apical 3rd, and metatibiae so in apical 4th. Body length: 6.13 mm.

Head transverse; punctures partly piligerous, coarse, dense on frons and clypeus, sparse on genae, postgenae and vertex; clypeus weakly convex, moderately produced forwards, truncate at apex; frontoclypeal suture moderately impressed, moderately arcuate; genae transverse, subtriangular, produced latero-posteriorly, gently raised along frontoclypeal suture; frons narrow, moderately depressed, steeply descendant towards clypeus; TD/IE 2.79; eyes transverse, extremely large and convex above, roundly expanded laterally, slightly intruded by genae; inner ocular sulci narrow and sharrow. Antennae long (Fig. 6), reaching close to basal 3rd of elytra; 4th to 10th antennomeres pectinate (rami of the 5th and 6th antennomeres are partly missing, and 9th is broken but was examined), distinctly clavate towards apex; scape robust; pedicel short-oval, the shortest; 3rd antennomere a little longer than wide; 4th to 11th moderately pubescent with dense sensoria; ramus of 4th antennomere the shortest, and that of 7th to 10th nearly same length with each other (about 1.33 times as long as that of 4th); 11th slightly longer than rami of 7th to 10th, 9.5 times as long as pedicel, hardly curved outwards. Apical maxillary palpomeres dilated and obconical. Mentum obtrapezoidal, 1.38 times as wide as long, moderately convex in middle, with some coarse punctures. Gula triangular, almost flat, weakly depressed in middle; gular suture wide and shallow.

Pronotum transversely quadrate, moderately convex, widest before middle; PW/PL 1.95; disc moderately convex, depressed along lateral margins, moderately and coarsely punctate; punctures on middle and lateral 4th larger than those on the rest of pronotum, nearly as large as on frons and clypeus; anterior margin very feebly emarginate, slightly produced in median half, moderately beaded; anterior corners obtusely rounded, hardly produced; lateral margins slightly rounded, not sinuate before base, weakly beaded; posterior corners obtuse, weakly angulate, not produced; posterior margin slightly arcuate, weakly emarginate in middle, moderately beaded. Scutellum large triangular, 1.29 times as wide as long, with fine microsculpture and some punctures.

Elytra oblong, divergent posteriorly, finely beaded at sides, gibbous in basal 10th, convex in apical 4/5, depressed between the convexities; EL/EW 1.52; striae fine, deepened apically, 4th and 5th striae not connected at posterior terminal; strial punctures fine, irregular in density, becoming finer apically; intervals moderately convex, with very fine and sparse punctures; humeral calli moderately humped; epipleura almost flat, unevenly undulate in basal half, partly rugose, reaching middle of 5th abdominal ventrite.

Prothoracic hypomera unevenly depressed, longitudinally rugose, sparsely and coarsely punctate. Prosternum very short and weakly depressed, distinctly beaded at apex; prosternal process oblong guttiform, horizontal in basal 4th, then steeply declined inwards in apical 3/4, strongly rugose, not beaded at sides. Mesoventrite coarsely irregularly punctate, strongly rugose, pubescent in part, without posterior ridge. Metaventrite dilated posteriorly, moderately convex, coarsely and irregularly punctate, strongly rugose. Abdomen weakly convex, with dense microsculpture, longitudinally rugulose in basal three ventrites.

Legs short, covered with fine and sparse piligerous punctures. Femora robust. Tibiae short, with inner margin densely pubescent in apical 2/3 (protibia), apical 3rd (mesotibia), and apical 10th (metatibia), respectively; protibia almost straight; meso- and metatibiae weakly curved inwards; Tarsi long and slender, moderately dilated, with long and dense pubescence on ventral sides.

Aedeagus (Figs. 4–5) slender, 0.43 times as long as elytra; basal piece strongly curved ventrally, weakly divergent posteriorly, 4.14 times as long as parameres; parameres slender, strongly and evenly tapering towards rounded apices. Defensive glands (Fig. 7) semitransparent, not annulate, with longitudinal rugosities in apical 3/4 and transverse short rugosities around the base.

Female. Unknown.

Etymology. Specific epithet is cordially dedicated to Dr. Loong Fah Cheong (LKCNHM), who collected the holotype of this species.

Differential diagnosis. The new species, Lycidioides cheongi sp. nov., is similar in 4th antennomere with ramus to L. sakaii and L. melae (Masumoto & Akita 2007). However, compared with L. sakaii, this new species has the following characteristics (those of L. sakaii given in parentheses): colour of femora and tibiae each mingled with brownish yellow and blackish brown (dark blue with greenish tinge); punctures on genae sparse (dense); eyes much wider, TD/IE 2.79 (narrower, TD/IE less than 1.0); inner ocular sulci shallow (deep); 11th antennomere 9.5 times as long as pedicel (13 times); pronotum not produced at posterior corners, with lateral margins not sinuate before base (weakly produced at posterior corners, with lateral margins feebly sinuate); elytra with 4th and 5th striae not connected at posterior terminal (connected); elytral intervals moderately convex (very slightly convex); prosternum not raised in middle (raised); aedeagus strongly curved in lateral view (weakly curved). Additionally, compared with L. melae, this new species has the following characteristics (those of L. melae given in parentheses): elytra metallic blueish purple (metallic reddish purple); colour of femora and tibiae each mingled with brownish yellow and blackish brown (brownish black with bluish tinge); punctures of head entirely large (rather fine); pronotum covered with coarse punctures, with lateral margins weakly beaded (covered with small punctures, with lateral margins strongly beaded); elytral intervals moderately convex (almost flat); inner margin of metatibiae pubescent in apical 10th (in apical 3/5); parameres of aedeagus evenly tapering from base to apices (tapering in apical 3rd).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03E56237FF8B015175A8FDF89F4BFC29	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
