Coptotriche is characterized by the membranous socii with spinules, the uncus composed of two large subtriangular lateral lobes, the tegumen with a spinous diaphragm, the wide valva, the presence of a transtilla, and a tulip-shaped phallus.</p><p>Coptotriche is not distinguishable from other genera in appearance. The new species can be distinguished from other known species by the valva obtusely produced and angled at middle on the ventral margin, the phallus curved backward near the base and forming a basal hook, and the distally tulip-shaped part of the phallus without clustered spines and with a triangular process anterolaterally.</p><p>Description. Adult (Fig. 1). Male wingspan 8.5 mm.</p><p>Head. Frons pale yellow; pecten ochreous yellow; frontal tuft pale ochreous yellow. Proboscis yellow. Labial palpus pale yellow. Antenna 0.73 × length of forewing; scape yellow; flagellum pale yellow except ochreous yellow in basal 1/5. Collar straw yellow.</p><p>Thorax. Mesonotum and tegula ochreous yellow. Forewing straw yellow, with scattered dark brown scales; fringe straw yellow, with sparse dark brown scales. Hindwing greyish brown; fringe pale yellowish grey. Foreleg yellow ventrally, yellowish brown dorsally; midleg bronzy yellow; hindleg ochreous yellow. Epiphysis yellow, at distal 2/5, almost reaching apex of tibia.</p><p>Abdomen. Dark bronzy.</p><p>Male genitalia (Fig. 5). Uncus with lateral lobes narrowed to rounded apex, excavation between uncus lobes straight. Socii semicircular, with tiny spines. Tegumen narrowed medially, with a deep anterior emargination; lateral arm narrowed anteriorly. Valva slightly widened from base to about middle, thereafter slightly narrowed to rounded apex; costal margin weakly sinuate; ventral margin produced at about middle, forming a distinctly obtuse angle, obliquely straight from middle to ventroapical corner, with dense setae in ventral area. Transtilla (Fig. 5a) strongly arcuate; sublateral process 0.15 × length of transtilla. Vinculum (Fig. 5b) arced, broadly rounded on anterior margin; ventral plate indistinct. Phallus 1.4 × length of capsule, curved backward near base, forming a distinct basal hook; tulip-shaped part gradually narrowed to obtusely rounded apex, with a triangular process anterolaterally, lacking clustered spines.</p><p>Female. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by the valva wide and parallel sided from the base to basal 3/7, distinctly narrowed and large thumb shaped distally, and the tulip-shaped part of the phallus having seven strong horn-shaped cornuti and lacking fine spines.</p><p>Description. Adult (Fig. 2). Male wingspan 8.0 mm.</p><p>Head. Frons pale ochreous yellow; pecten pale yellow; frontal tuft yellowish cream. Proboscis yellow. Labial palpus straw yellow. Antenna 0.69 × length of forewing; scape ochreous yellow; flagellum greyish brown except basal 1/4 yellowish brown. Collar yellowish cream.</p><p>Thorax. Mesonotum pale yellowish brown; tegula dark brownish yellow. Forewing ground color brownish yellow, with dark brown scales, denser along costal margin and termen; fringe ochreous yellow. Hindwing silvery bronzy; fringe grey. Foreleg yellow ventrally, greyish brown except coxa yellow dorsally; midleg yellow ventrally, bronzy grey except femur yellow dorsally; hindleg pale greyish yellow. Uncus with lateral lobes obtusely rounded at apex; excavation between uncus lobes slightly produced posteromedially. Socii membranous, with tiny spines. Tegumen narrowed medially, with a deep trapezoidal anterior emargination; lateral arm narrowed anteriorly, sclerotized on inner margin. Valva with basal 3/7 distinctly wide and parallel sided, distally narrowed, strongly thumb shaped, setose; costal margin slightly concave beyond middle; ventral margin concave beyond basal 2/5, forming an obtusely right angle before concavity.Transtilla (Fig. 6a) slender; sublateral processes indistinct. Vinculum (Fig. 6b) with ventral plate slightly produced. Phallus 1.27 × length of capsule, almost straight apically; tulip-shaped part with seven strong horn-shaped corunti arranged in two rows, distance between two rows widening toward apex, forming a V-shaped pattern, without spines.</p><p>Female. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin bas- and latus, referring to the valva with basal 3/7 distinctly wide.</p><p>Remarks. The tulip-shaped part of the phallus bears seven large and distinct horns which are not spines as in the other species, and we use cornuti to indicate them in this species. The new species is similar to Coptotriche longispicula (Puplesis, 1988) in the male genitalia. It can be distinguished by the forewing without a tornal spot; the vinculum extended anteriorly in short triangle and the tulip-shaped part of the phallus uniformly wide in the male genitalia. In C. longispicula, the forewing has a tornal spot formed by dark brown scales; the vinculum extends into an elongate club anteriorly and the tulip-shaped part of the phallus is abruptly constricted to a small triangularly-shaped apex in the male genitalia (Diškus 1998: 30).</p><p>Description. Adult (Fig. 3). Male wingspan 10.5 mm.</p><p>Head. Frons cream; pecten pale yellow; frontal tuft straw yellow. Proboscis yellowish brown except yellow in basal 1/5. Labial palpus pale ochreous yellow. Antenna 0.64 × length of forewing; scape and flagellum whitish yellow. Collar ochreous yellow.</p><p>Thorax. Mesonotum yellow; tegula yellowish brown. Forewing straw yellow, with black scales denser along costal margin; fringe grey-yellow, tinged with yellow. Hindwing greyish yellow; fringe yellow. Foreleg yellow ventrally, dark brown except coxa yellow dorsally; midleg yellow ventrally, bronzy dorsally except femur yellow; hindleg pale straw yellow. Transtilla (Fig. 7a) slender; sublateral processes long, 0.44 × length of transtilla, slightly swollen distally. Vinculum (Fig. 7b) with ventral plate subtriangular, short, narrowed to rounded anterior margin. Phallus 1.2 × length of capsule; tulip-shaped part uniformly wide, with two rows of spines from its basal 1/5 to 5/7 laterally.</p><p>Female genitalia (Fig. 9). Main ovipositor lobes subtrapezoid; second pair of ovipositor lobes fusiform. Inner prela short and wide, closely approaching each other anteriorly; median prela narrowly rod-shaped; transverse prela stout, rapidly narrowed anteriorly. This species is similar to Coptotriche inclinata Puplesis &amp; Diškus, 2003 in the forewing with scattered black scales, the valva narrowed basally and the phallus with the tulip-shaped head produced anterolaterally in the male genitalia. However, it can be distinguished by the excavation between the uncus lobes narrowly rounded at apex, the vinculum obtusely rounded anteriorly, and the phallus with the tulip-shaped head bearing a pair of spines laterally. In C. inclinata, the uncus lobes are pointed at apex, the vinculum is pointed anteriorly, and the tulip-shaped head of the phallus lacks spines (Puplesis &amp; Diškus 2003: 118, fig. 287).</p><p>Description. Adult (Fig. 4). Wingspan: Male 8.5‒9.5 mm, female 8.0‒11.0 mm.</p><p>Head: Frons glossy pale yellow; pecten light brownish yellow; frontal tuft brown. Proboscis pale yellowish brown. Labial palpus yellow. Antenna 0.53‒0.64 × length of forewing; scape ochreous yellow; flagellum brownish yellow except ochreous yellow in basal 1/3. Collar pale ochreous yellow, with metallic luster.</p><p>Thorax: Mesonotum and tegula ochreous yellow. Forewing ground color pale yellow, sometimes with scattered black scales on costal margin; gradually with denser black scales from middle to apex; fringe greyish brown. Hindwing silvery grey; fringe greyish yellow. Fore- and midlegs light brown densely with dark brown scales; hindleg light yellow. Epiphysis pale brown, at distal 1/3 of tibia, not reaching apex of tibia.</p><p>Abdomen: Ochreous yellow.</p><p>Male genitalia (Fig. 8). Uncus lobes narrowly rounded at apex, excavation between uncus lobes almost straight. Valva narrowed in basal 2/5, broadly round at apex; almost straight on costal margin, slightly convex before middle on ventral margin. Transtilla (Fig. 8a) relatively broad, sublateral process indistinct. Vinculum (Fig. 8b) V-shaped, obtusely rounded anteriorly; ventral plate extremely reduced. Phallus 0.86 × length of capsule, broadly rounded apically; tulip-shaped head with triangular process anterolaterally and two rows of spines laterally.</p><p>Female genitalia (Fig. 10). Main ovipositor lobes fan-shaped; second pair of ovipositor lobes subovoid. Inner prela extremely broad, pointed anteriorly, fused with each other posteriorly; median prela short, arc-shaped; transverse prela sinuate. Caudal plate of prela wide, slightly concave anteromedially, straight posteriorly. Lateral lobes absent. Ductus bursae 1.4 × length of corpus bursae, with minute spines. Corpus bursae elongate ovoid.</p><p>Host plants. Carpinus cordata Blume, C. japonica Blume, C. laxiflora, C. tschonoskii, Corylus sieboldiana and Ostrya japonica ( Betulaceae) (Kobayashi et al. 2016).</p><p>Distribution. China (Shanxi), Japan, Russia (Far East), South Korea.</p><p>Remarks. This species is similar to Coptotriche rosella (Gerasimov, 1937) in the male genitalia, but it can be distinguished by the forewing mixed with yellow and dark brown scales evenly but without a cilia-line, in the male genitalia by the phallus not constricted distally. In C. rosella, the forewing has dense brown scales at tornus and the cilia-line formed by a row of brown scales; and the phallus is distinctly constricted at distal 1/ 7 in the male genitalia (Diškus 1998: 28, fig. 21).</p><p>Host plants. Prunus sp., Armeniaca sp. and Persica sp. ( Rosaceae) (Cao et al. 1983); Cerasus microcarpa, C. vulgaris, Prunus domestica and P. spinosa ( Rosaceae) (Puplesis &amp; Diškus 2003). In this study, we found C. gaunacella fed on Prunus persica ( Rosaceae) in Xinjiang, China.</p><p>Distribution. China (Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Xinjiang), Caucasus, Europe, Iran, Turkmenistan.</p><p>Remarks. Cao et al. TL: China (Jiangxi). TD: GNU.</p><p>Diagnostic characters. Forewing greyish yellow-ochre, densely speckled with black-brown scales along costal margin and around apex; cilia-line absent. In male genitalia, uncus lobes narrowly rounded at apex; valva gradually narrowed to apex, distinctly concave at basal 1/3 on ventral margin; vinculum rounded anteriorly, with ventral plate convex posteriorly; phallus sinuate at apex, tulip-shaped head with two short bands of spines in basal 3/5 laterally (Xu et al. 2021: 77, figs 12‒14, 17‒18).</p><p>Distribution. China (Jiangxi).</p><p>Remarks. Xu et al. Forewing mainly orange yellow or ochreous orange, with scattered fuscous brown scales; cilia-line fuscous brown. In male genitalia, uncus lobes obtusely rounded at apex, excavation between uncus lobes produced posteromedially; valva narrowed at basal 1/3, broadly rounded at apex; vinculum with ventral plate distinctly convex posteriorly; phallus sinuate apically, with two lateral clusters of slender spines (Puplesis &amp; Diškus 2003: 116, figs 272‒275).</p><p>Distribution. China (Guangdong), Japan.</p><p>Remarks. Puplesis &amp; Diškus (2003) described C. japoniella from Japan. Huang &amp; Tan (2009) recorded this species from Guangdong, China. Forewing ochreous cream to ocherous yellow, with some sparse black scales apically. In male genitalia, uncus lobes incurved, pointed at apex, excavation between uncus lobes slightly rounded anteriorly; valva with costal and ventral margins both sinuate; vinculum broadly rounded or produced anteriorly, ventral plate with distinctive posterior excavations; phallus with two long bands of spines laterally (Xu et al. 2021: 81, figs 19‒28).</p><p>Distribution. China (Jiangxi).</p><p>Remarks.
