It was found growing on cliff or rock surface and between rock crevices under subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests or bushes, at elevation of 180–500 m a.s.l.

Etymology:— The specific epithet “ fuyangii ” is in honor of Fuyang Nong, who contributed to the resources investigation of Begonia in Guangxi, and was the first person to discover this species. Chinese name is “ âṻäae Dz ”.

Additional specimens examined (paratypes):— CHINA. Each subpopulation has no more than 50 individuals. The total number of mature individuals is less than 100, and some plants are on the brink of death due to drought. The extent of occurrence (EOO) is about 200 km 2 (<5000 km 2) and the area of occupancy (AOO) is about 15 km 2 (<500 km 2). Therefore, based on the current data, we assessed the new species as Endangered (EN) (B1+2ab(iii,v); C2a(i)) following the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria (IUCN Standards and Petitions Committee 2024).

Notes:— Begonia fuyangii also resembles B. jingxiensis D.Fang & Y.G.Wei (Fang et al. 2004: 172) in leaf size and shape and having a 3-locular ovary, placentation axile, but differs from it in stipules triangular (vs ovate or broadly ovate), leaf blade adaxially green to dark green, sometimes with light green or grayish-white patches and/or spots (vs adaxially green, dark green, or adorned with a whitish or pale horseshoe-shaped maculation) between veins, margin entire to subentire (vs irregularly dentate or denticulate, long ciliate), bracts broadly ovate to subrotund (vs oblong to elliptic), staminate flower tepals 4, stamens 26–50 (vs tepals 2(–4), stamens 18–30) and pistillate flower tepals 3 (vs tepals 2). Detailed morphological comparison of B. fuyangii, B. yizhouensis and B. jingxiensis is provided in Table 1.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03D887A2C65A2C7EFF02A4B12DCEF3E8	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
