Plants 30 – 55 cm high; stem purple-green, in lower half with moderately numerous, pale, 1.5 – 2.5 mm long simple hairs, and with numerous stellate hairs; in upper half with very rare, pale, dark-based, 1 – 1.5 mm long simple hairs, sparse stellate hairs, and with scattered pale microglands, without glandular hairs. Rosette leaves 1 – 2 (– 3), more or less coriaceous, somewhat glaucescent beneath, outer leaves smaller and more rounded at apex; inner leaves distincly petiolate, 8 – 12 × 1.7 – 3.0 cm, lamina narrowly elliptical to oblanceolate, acute at apex, gradually tapered to a long petiole covered by dense, up to 4 mm long simple hairs, sharply dentate with 4 – 5 (incl. mucronate glands) teeth on each side, teeth triangular to falcate, the longest tooth up to 3 mm long (measured as a straight line along the midrib), on the upper surface with scattered up to 1.5 mm long pale simple hairs and scattered stellate hairs to glabrous, on the lower surface with scattered, up to 2 mm long, pale simple hairs and scattered stellate hairs, on margins and along midrib with numerous simple hairs. Cauline leaves 3 – 5 (– 6), gradually reduced in size upwards, slightly coriaceous, on the lower surface somehow glaucescent, on the upper surface with sparse, 1.0 – 1.4 mm long, pale simple hairs (or sometimes glabrous) and scattered to numerous stellate hairs, on the lower surface with scattered, on the margins and along the midrib numerous pale simple hairs and numerous stellate hairs. Lower cauline leaves petiolate, 8.5 – 13.5 × 1.5 – 2.8 cm, lamina oblanceolate to narrowly elliptical, cuneate at base, gradualy tapered to semi-amplexicaul petiole, with up to six teeth (incl. mucronate glands) on each side, teeth triangular to narrowly triangular, often falcate, the longest tooth up to 3 mm long; medium cauline leaves semi-amplexicaul or sessile with broad base, oblanceolate to (narrowly) elliptical, 5.3 – 10.2 × 1.3 – 2.5 cm, long sharpened at apex, sharply dentate, with 5 – 8 (– 10) teeth (incl. mucronate glands) on each side, teeth triangular to narrowly triangular, falcate, the longest tooth up to 5 mm long; upper cauline with a broad base sessile, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, acute at apex, in the lower half sharply dentate. Synflorescence with (3 –) 4 – 7 capitula, sometimes flowering branches also appearing from axils of middle and upper, occasionally also lower cauline leaves, branches more or less straight. Acladium 1 – 3 cm long. Peduncles thin, erect, more or less straight, with scattered 0.8 – 1.5 mm long, pale, dark-based simple hairs, dense stellate hairs, and very rare blackish 0.3 – 0.5 mm long glandular hairs. Involucres 10 – 13 mm long, subglobose at base. Involucral bracts narrowly lanceolate, obtuse at apex, up to 1.2 mm wide at base, blackish-green, inner bracts with pale green margins, with scattered, dark-based (up to 1 / 3 to 1 / 2 of their length), up to 0.8 mm long simple hairs, around the base with very rare 0.2 – 0.4 mm long blackish glandular hairs, and numerous stellate hairs along margins. Ligules warm-yellow, the outer up to 15 mm long, with only very rare cilia at apex. Styles dirty-yellow with dense black microtrichomes. Achenes dark brown, 3.0 – 3.3 mm long. Pappus pale-grey. Flowering: second half of July and first half of August. Chromosome number: ― 2 n = 4 x = 36 (two plants from Mt. Panská hoľa and two plants from Mt. Rovienky).	en	Chrtek, Jindřich, Szeląg, Zbigniew (2025): Hieracium certovicae (Asteraceae), a new species in H. sect. Alpestria from the Nízke Tatry Mts, Western Carpathians, Slovakia. 03D187DDFF8FCB221E8CFF268E05F82C.taxon	discussion	Affinity: ― Hieracium certovicae distinctly differs from all in general appearance similar species in having stellate hairs on both upper and lower leaf surfaces. Hieracium epimedium Fries (1862: 103) s. lat. differs from H. certovicae by smaller heads (involucres 9 – 10 mm long), arching inflorescence branches, well developed basal rosette in the time of flowering, scattered to numerous glandular hairs on peduncles and basal parts of involucral bracts. Hieracium carpathicum sensu Zahn (1938: 374) differs in having more numerous (at least five) stem leaves, as a rule numerous, up to 1.5 mm long simple eglandular hairs, and scattered to numerous, up to 0.6 mm long glandular hairs on peduncles and involucral bracts, scattered very short hairs at the apex (teeth) of ligules, and broader leaves. Hieracium certovicae has also a superficial resemblance to H. tephrosoma (Nägeli & Peter) Zahn (1901: 1853), but it can be easily distinguished by its semi-amplexicaul cauline leaves (cauline leaves with a narrow base sessile to petiolate in H. tephrosoma).	en	Chrtek, Jindřich, Szeląg, Zbigniew (2025): Hieracium certovicae (Asteraceae), a new species in H. sect. 03D187DDFF8FCB221E8CFF268E05F82C.taxon	distribution	Distribution and habitat: ― Hieracium certovicae is endemic to the central part of the Nízke Tatry Mts. It occurs on southern slopes of the main ridge between Mt. Ďumbier in the west and the saddle of Čertovica in the east, it also grows on a lateral ridge extending northward from Mt. Ďumbier and on northern slopes of Mt. Chopok (Fig. 3). Hieracium certovicae grows mainly above the timberline (except for slopes just above the saddle of Čertovica) in subalpine grasslands and open places in Pinus mugo community at 1265 – 1680 m a. s. l. (Fig. 4). Large populations are on southern slopes of Mt. Panská hoľa, below the marked tourist path and around the Kumštové sedlo saddle; otherwise only small populations have been found. Most likely, it replaces H. carpathicum in this region.	en	Chrtek, Jindřich, Szeląg, Zbigniew (2025): Hieracium certovicae (Asteraceae), a new species in H. sect. 03D187DDFF8FCB221E8CFF268E05F82C.taxon	discussion	Notes: ― The Hieracium carpathicum agg. is polymorhic in the Western Carpathians and requires further research. Zahn (1938) distinguished three subspecies of H. carpathicum in this region. Recently another new species of this group was described from Mt. Babia Góra (Szeląg 2024).	en	Chrtek, Jindřich, Szeląg, Zbigniew (2025): Hieracium certovicae (Asteraceae), a new species in H. sect. Alpestria from the Nízke Tatry Mts, Western Carpathians, Slovakia.
