The small genus Parascela includes three species from Northeastern India, China, and Vietnam: P. cribrata Schaufuus, 1871 , P. hirsuta Jacoby, 1908 , and P. tuberosa Tan & Wang, 1983 . When the genus was established as monotypical for P. cribrata , it was considered a member of the tribe Adoxini because of the presence of the setae dorsally. Later it became clear that presence of the setae is not a very important character to separate the tribes of Eumolpinae , and Parascela was placed near Basilepta in the tribe Typophorini ( Moseyko & Sprecher-Uebersax, 2010) . In fact, taking into consideration the species added later, this genus has unclear differences from Basilepta , concerning the presence of setae and/or surface structures on the pronotum and elytra, and the absence of regular puncture rows on elytra. Probably it can even be considered a species group within Basilepta . In this study, we still consider it as a separate genus, placing in it all the species that have densely punctured pronotum with weak lateral carinae and elytra covered with setae and/or rugose.
