Rhagovelia bocaina Moreira and Ribeiro, 2009 View in CoL

These species were recently described from medium to high altitude localities in Southeastern Brazil, and the following must be mentioned regarding R. aiuruoca : brachypterous specimens cited by Moreira and Ribeiro (2009) are in fact macropterous specimens with wings broken off near the base; and mesosternal tubercles, corresponding to small projections of the posterior margin of the segment, can be observed in this species, but should not be used as a diagnostic feature, being present in other Rhagovelia species. Also, some of the coordinates given on the list of material were incorrect: 22 ◦ 20 ′ 928 ′′ S, 44 ◦ 41 ′ 606 ′′ W is actually 22 ◦ 20.928 ′ S, 44 ◦ 41.606 ′ W, and 22 ◦ 18 ′ 786 ′′ S, 44 ◦ 36 ′ 814 ′′ W is in fact 22 ◦ 18.786 ′ S, 44 ◦ 36.814 ′ W.

As for R. bocaina , the latitude indicated for types is 2 ◦ 44 ′ 05.6 ′′ S, whereas the correct latitude is 22 ◦ 44 ′ 05.6 ′′ S. On comments about this species, it was mentioned that the apterous male pronotum was longer than wide. To reconfirm this, measurements were retaken and a length: width ratio of 5.1: 5.6 was found on the holotype, and similar ratios on paratypes. The shape of the male paramere remains the main character for distinguishing this species from Rhagovelia calcaris Drake and Harris, 1936 , as shown by figures found in Polhemus (1997) and Moreira and Ribeiro (2009).

Several specimens of R. aiuruoca were collected in Serra do Caparaó, and R. bocaina is recorded for the first time from Espírito Santo State, based on material collected near the municipal seat of Laranja da Terra.
