Scrobipalpa nigripuncta View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs. 9 View FIGURES 9 – 16 , 26 View FIGURES 25 – 32 , 47 View FIGURES 47 – 49 )

Type material. Holotype, 3, China: Baotianman, Neixiang County (33°02' N, 111°50' E), Henan Province, 1200 m, 23.v.2006, leg. Xu Zhang and Jinmei Lv, genitalia slide no. L06021. Paratypes: 1 Ƥ, same data as holotype except dated 22.v.2006, genitalia slide no. L07022; 9 3, 8 Ƥ, same data as holotype except dated 20- 28.v, 1.vi.2006.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9 – 16 ): Wingspan 9.0–10.5 mm. Head, thorax and tegula grey. Labial palpus light grey, with rare black scales; inner and upper surface of segment 2 white; segment 3 grey, with white middle belt. Scapus grey, other antennal segments grey, white-ringed basally. Forewing grey; pair of diffused black stripes near base, two stripes at one-third, diffused black spot at three-fifths; black-tipped scales at base and along costal margin; cilia grey, black-tipped. Hindwing grey.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 25 – 32 ): Uncus prolonged, weakly narrowed distally, rounded at apex. Gnathos with very thin and strongly curved distal part. Tegumen relatively long and narrow. Valva of moderate width, widened distally, nearly as long as length of tegumen plus uncus. Scculus about one-fifth length of valva, moderately short and broad, with distinctly pointed tip. Paired processes on posterior margin of vinculum slightly shorter than sacculus, strongly curved outwards; medial excision deep and broad, sub-triangular. Saccus comparatively long. Aedeagus inflated basally; distal portion straight, with down-curved apical cornutus.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 47 – 49 ): Papilla analis sub-oval, sparsely covered with short setae. Segment VIII subquadrangular. Vaginal plates relatively broad, slightly wrinkled at base of apophyse anteriores, separated by delicate spined membanous zone. Postvaginal plates digitate, weakly narrowed distally. Ductus bursae short, moderately broad; cingulum narrow, distinct. Corpus bursae very long; signum a stout triangular thorn, weakly serrated medially.

Diagnosis. Scrobipalpa nigripuncta sp. n. is similar externally to S. distincta sp. n. The male genitalia resemble those of S. fraterna , but differ in the distinctly curved vinculum processes, longer aedeagus, longer saccus and narrower uncus. It is also similar to S. sattleri , but can be distinguished by the shorter valva which does not exceed the top of uncus, and the narrower, longer aedeagus. The female genitalia can be recognized easily by the unusually long corpus bursae and the stout triangular signum. Sternite VIII resemble that of S. chinensis Povolný , but slightly differs in the wrinkled rather than finely pinned patches near base of the apophyes anteriores.

Biology. Host-plant unknown. Adults fly in May.

Distribution. China (Henan).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin prefix nigr- – black, and the Latin punctus – small spot, in reference to the wing pattern.
