Discussion: Includes Megaleia and Protemnodon (sensu Haltenorth, 1958) ; see Kirsch and Calaby (1977:17). Rationale for present usage of Macropus given by Calaby (1966). Ride (1962) discussed generic nomenclature for all Macropodinae . Van Gelder (1977 b) included Thylogale and Wallabia in this genus, but see Kirsch and Calaby (1977:17) and Corbet and Hill (1980:17-18). Dawson and Flannery (1985) divided this genus into three subgenera: Macropus , Notamacropus and Osphranter ; almost certainly Notamacropus is paraphyletic.
