Apsilocera elongata Mitroiu & van Achterberg, sp. n.
( Figs 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 , 24 View FIGURES 19 – 24 )
Type material. Holotype, ♀ (RMNH), “N. VIETNAM: Ninh Binh, Cuc Phuong N.P., nr centre (I), c 225 m, 20.xii.1999 – 10.ii.2000, Mai Phu Quy, RMNH’00”.
Diagnosis. Head transverse in anterior view, without ornamentation; malar space almost half eye height; clypeal margin broadly angulate; each funicular segment with one row of sensilla; clava brown; distal tooth of mandible sharp ( Figs 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 , 24 View FIGURES 19 – 24 ). Mesosoma arched; fore coxa mainly dark, mid and hind coxae pale yellow, the latter with a small dark spot basally; fore wing hyaline; M about twice S ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Metasoma dorsally brown, slightly paler at base.
Description. Holotype female, body length: 2.75 mm. Colour ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ): head black, with very slight bluish reflections more visible on face; eyes reddish, ocelli pale yellow; scape, pedicel and anelli reddish-brown, pedicel darker dorsally; funicle and clava brown; mandible brown, teeth darker. Mesosoma as head, but with slight coppery reflections on pronotum, anterior part of mesoscutum, scutellum, axillae and axillulae; wings hyaline; tegula and venation brown; fore coxa mainly dark, mid and hind coxae pale yellow, the latter with a small dark spot basally; trochanters, femora, tibiae and tarsi pale yellow. Metasoma dorsally brown, slightly paler at base; hind margin of distal tergites slightly darker; lateral and ventral sides of metasoma extensively pale yellow basally; ovipositor sheaths brown.
Head transverse in anterior view, without ornamentation; clypeal margin broadly angulate; each funicular segment with one row of sensilla; mandible formula 3:?4, distal tooth of mandible sharp; gena moderately receding towards mouth, not hollowed at mouth corner ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 19 – 24 ); temple short, but not strongly receding towards occiput; occiput emarginate. Relative measurements—length: 28; width: 52; height: 40; POL: 13; OOL: 7; eye height: 28; eye length: 21; malar space: 12; mouth width: 24; distance between clypeal margin and toruli: 29; scape length: 25; pedicel length: 5.5; pedicel width: 3.5; pedicel plus flagellum: 67; F1 length: 7; F1 width: 5; F6 length: 6.5; F6 width: 5; clava length: 17; clava width: 5.5.
Mesosoma arched ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ); propodeum almost smooth; fore wing with basal cell bare, open below; basal vein pilose; ventral side of costal cell with one row of hairs and some additional hairs in distal part; speculum almost reaching stigmal vein, effaced on ventral side of wing by two irregular rows of hairs; stigma very long, lower edge emarginate ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Relative measurements—length: 61; width: 44; height: 41; mesoscutum length: 27; scutellum length: 22; scutellum width: 21; propodeum length: 10; fore wing length: 145; fore wing width: 66; M: 34; S: 17; P: 38.
Metasoma ovate-acuminate ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ); ovipositor sheaths barely visible in dorsal view. Relative measurementslength: 86; width: 43; length of first tergite: 15; distance from base of metasoma to tip of hypopygium: 50.
Distribution. Vietnam.
Hosts. Unknown.
Etymology. From the Latin “ elongatus ” (elongated), which refers to the general shape of the body, and of the stigma.
Comments. Apsilocera elongata belongs to a group of species without ornamentation on the vertex. It most closely resembles A. maculata and A. dupla . From both species A. elongata differs in having the gena only slightly receding towards mouth, the clypeal margin broadly angulate ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 19 – 24 ), and an elongated stigma, with lower margin emarginate ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ).
