Ecology. Very common on shallow water, on algae, mangrove roots and reefs.

Distribution. ABC Islands, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, St. Lucia St. Martin / St. Maarten, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, USA, Virgin Islands, Venezuela (Valdés et al. 2006; Miloslavich et al. 2010. La Restinga, Margarita: Grune et al. 2015).
