Lepidostoma meghalayaense sp. nov.

( Figs. 20–25 View FIGURES 13 – 25 )

Male: Brown. Scapes ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 13 – 25 ) each 0.96 mm, simple, unbranched. Maxillary palps ( Figs 25 View FIGURES 13 – 25 ) each 0.48 mm, 2-segmented, basal segment short, apical segment slightly longer than basal segment, slender. Length of each forewing 4.85mm. Wing venation and setae as in Fig. 24 View FIGURES 13 – 25 .

Male genitalia (20–23): Tergum IX narrow transverse strap at its centre dorsally and slightly broader towards its sides. Segment X excised to its base at its centre, with 2 pairs of processes each with apical tuft of setae, lateral processes finger-like and longer than mesal ones. Inferior appendage each 2 segmented, first article long, broad with a basodorsal process directed dorsad; second article slender, with deep excision at its apex. Phallus short, phallobase truncate, phallicata finger-like, parameres short.

Diagnosis. This species is similar to Lepidostoma brueckmanni Malicky & Chantaramongkol , of the L. ferox Branch but differs from the later by having the dorsolateral processes of segment X slender, and the dorsomesal mesal processes more triangular and pointed apically in lateral view. Segment X laterally is sheet-like. The phallus has parameres that are very short, at most 1/3rd as long as the slender phallicata. The maxillary palps each have the 2nd segment club-shaped. The forewing postcubital fold is not prominent.

Etymology. The name of the species is based on the state “Meghalaya” from where the type specimen was collected.

Material examined. Holotype 3, INDIA: Meghalaya, Cherrapunge, 1500 m, 25-v-2010. Material deposited in the Museum of the Department of Zoology, Punjabi University, Patiala. India.
