Xenotarsonemus pirassunungaensis , sp. nov.

( Figs.7–12)

Diagnosis. Females of this species are similar to those of Xenotarsonemus camarae Ochoa (1991) , but differ by having v’F and v’G of leg IV longer than those of X. camarae , and by having poststernal apodeme bifurcate on anterior end, while in X. camarae this apodeme is not bifurcate.

Adult female (3 specimens measured).

Gnathosoma: capsule subquadrate, length 28 (28–29), maximum width 27 (26–28); dorsal apodeme indistinct. Setae ch 11 and vm 6 (5–7), smooth; seta pp not seen. Palpus short, with 2 small subterminal setae and terminal cone-shaped structures. Pharynx fusiform, 18 (17–19) long and 7 wide at widest region.

Idiosoma ( Figs. 7 and 8): length 195 (180–210), width at level of c 1 122 (120–124); prodorsal shield covering gnathosoma. Stigma on lateral of prodorsal shield, equidistant of bases of setae v 1 and sc 2. Lengths of the setae: v 1 24 (24–25), sc 1 15 (15–16), sc 2 36 (36–37), c 1 20, c 2 29 (28–30), d 20, e 19 (18–20), f 18, h 22 (21– 23). Setae v 1, sc 2, d, e, f and h serrate, c 1 and c 2 smooth; all setae, except sc 1, setiform; sc 1 capitate and with tiny spines. Distances between dorsal setae: v 1 -v 1 30 (30–31), sc 2 -sc 2 56 (55–58), v 1 -sc 2 21 (20–22), c 1 -c 1 70 (67– 73) c 2 -c 2 103 (102–105), c 1 -c 2 35 (34–36), d-d 35, f-f 15 (15–16), e-f 23 (22–24), h-h 32. Seta sc 1 inserted anteriorly to sc 2.

Coxisternal setae 1a 8, near middle of apodeme I; 2a 13 (13–14), near middle of apodeme II; 3a 15, near anterior end of apodeme III; 3b 10 (10–11), near posterior end of apodeme IV. Apodeme I conspicuous, fused to anterior end of prosternal apodeme. Apodeme II not fused to prosternal apodeme. Prosternal apodeme conspicuous, except on posterior end, which widens up before joining the sejugal apodeme; a node in level with posterior end of apodeme II. Sejugal apodeme uninterrupted. Apodeme III extending diagonally from proximity of base of seta 3a to anterior margin of trochanter III. Apodeme IV extending diagonally from the anterior third of the poststernal apodeme to base of seta 3b; diffuse in the region joining the poststernal apodeme. Poststernal apodeme bifurcated anteriorly, diffuse in the region joining apodeme IV. Coxistenal plates smooth. Tegula elongate and pointed, 12 (12–13) long and 5 wide. All ventral setae smooth.

Legs ( Figs. 9–12 View FIGURES 9–12 ): lengths (femur to tarsus): leg I 45, leg II 41, leg III 56 (55–57), leg IV 31 (30–33). Number of setae (solenidia in parentheses) on femur, genu, tibia and tarsus, respectively: leg I: 4-4-5(2)-8(1), leg II: 2-3-4-6(1), leg III: 1+3-4-4. Tarsal solenidion ω of tibiotarsus I 8 (8–9), cylindrical and elongated, narrow near base. Sensory cluster of tibia I complete, solenidion Φ 1 2 (2–3), slender, capitate; solenidion Φ 2 3, stout and slightly capitate; famulus k 5; Φ 1 and Φ 2 inserted at approximately the same level, proximal to k. Seta d of tibia I 33 (32–35), serrate. Solenidion ω of tarsus II proximal, 5 long, stout and cylindrical, narrow near base; seta pl´´6, spine-like, inserted on the middle of tarsus II. Seta d of tibia II 11, serrate. Femorogenu IV 25 (24–26); tibiotarsus IV 6 (6–7). Lengths of setae of leg IV: v´F 11, v´G 17 (16–19), v´Ti 32 (31–33) and tc´´40 (40–41); all setae smooth.

Adult male: unknown.

Type material: holotype female and 2 paratype females from Campomanesia pubescens (DC.) , Pirassununga , State of São Paulo, Brazil, 03/ V /2000, A.C. Lofego, deposited at ESALQ / USP .

Etymology: the species name pirassunungaensis refers to the locality where type specimens were collected.
